Cheap ethanol in Sioux Falls, SD tomorrow

Looking for cheap ethanol in South Dakota? You'll get your chance tomorrow when Enterprise Rent-A-Car and VeraSun Energy offer up the biofuel at a Get-N-Go station in Sioux Falls. The promotional event, co-sponsored by the South Dakota Corn Council, is scheduled to last for just 90 minutes and will feature VeraSun's VE85-branded ethanol for 85 cents a gallon. Why would the companies do this? To promote a new fleet of E85-ready vehicles at the Sioux Falls Enterprise location. The press release, which does detail where the cheap ethanol will be available and says you can get free corn dogs, corn chips and pop (full of HFCS for a corn triple play), doesn't say how many flex-fuel vehicles or which ones are in the fleet. More ethanol available for sale in Texas thanks to VeraSun Energy and Kroger

Filed under: Ethanol, Flex-Fuel, Green Daily

Hey cowboy, got one of those little flex-fuel badges on your truck? If so, you can now fill 'er up with E85 at 20 Kroger gas stations in the Dallas and Houston areas. Kroger and VeraSun Energy announced today that VeraSun's mix of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline (which VeraSun calls VE85) will now be sold at the Kroger filling stations. There's a list of these stations and their addresses after the jump. The 20 new ethanol retail pumps brings VeraSuns national total to over 140 in 13 states and DC. 44 of these pumps are at Kroger stores.

Texas is a good place to expand ethanol availability, because the Texas State Energy Conservation Office says that there are more registered flexible fuel vehicles in Texas than in any other state. According to the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, it's likely there are more than 500,000 registered flex-fuel vehicles in Texas and, now, thirty pumps to feed them all.

VeraSun Energy and Enterprise will bring ethanol to rental cars

There are certainly no lack of methods to make your travels less environmentally damaging than they used to be. Here's another option, if you're into ethanol: VeraSun Energy and Enterprise Rent-A-Car announced last week that the two companies will work together to use VeraSun's E85 brand (VE85) in Enterprise's flexfuel vehicles, wherever VE85 is available.

This is (potentially) no small change. Enterprise has 41,000 E85-ready vehicles for rent. But VeraSun is only available at about 90 stations in America. The companies are saying this move is meant to not only use fewer fossil fuels, but to also introduce E85 (ok, VE85) to more people. As William L. Honnef, VeraSun senior vice president of sales and marketing says in the release, "This is another step forward in our continuing pursuit to move E85 further into the mainstream and to support those retailers who are making the fuel available in their marketplace."

E85 station coming to Pittsburgh this week, two more by year's end

I wrote Monday about how Pennsylvania is making a big push to get out of their coal history and moving into a greener energy future. Here are a few more details on how General Motors, VeraSun and Sheetz gas stations are working with the state will do this. VeraSun announced that its partnership with GM would provide VE85 (VeraSun's brand-name E85) to three Sheetz stations in the Pittsburgh area. The first shipments will arrive this week to one station, with the two other stores getting the fuel by the end of the year. There are 322 Sheetz gas stations in America. GM and VeraSun have partnerships with third-party retailers in three other states – South Dakota, Illinois, and Minnesota – to promote E85.
