Moov toy concept allows kids to build the vehicle they want

Filed under: Emerging Technologies, Green Culture, Transportation Alternatives, On Two Wheels

BergToys has a great idea for a human-powered children's toy: Moov. The concept is your basic kid's big-wheel or push scooter but the parts of the toy are interchangeable and they allow a child to make several different kinds of vehicles. The creativity of the child is also opened up because they can create vehicles not in the manual. How about a unicycle? Hey BergToys, make one for us bigger kids because I wouldn't mind transforming my mountain bike into a scooter or a recumbent three wheeler. Want one for junior? The website says "We are doing our utmost to complete it a.s.a.p." Can't wait! In the meantime, check out the video of the Moov below the fold.

H2G0 - Corgi's cool new R/C fuel cell toy car

Filed under: Emerging Technologies, Etc., Hydrogen, Green Daily

Who says fuel cell cars are years away? Okay, everyone. But fuel cells toy cars are here today! Recently, we told you about the toy maker Corgi making a new fuel cell toy car designed by the legendary Luigi Colani. Now, we have a picture of the car, H2Go, thanks to Toyology. There are several fuel cell toy cars currently on the market and even a remote control toy. The best looking is the H-Racer but it's not remote control. The remote control H-Cell costs $1,500 and is really a "Hobby Integration Kit."

Unveiled at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair in Germany, the H2Go has a cool design, remote control and costs just £130 ($256 US dollars). Corgin's CEO Michael Cookson says "This marks a new chapter in the global toy market. ... The H2GO is not only a fascinating miniature-scale, real-working fuel cell powered radio controlled toy that can be refuelled using plain water, but marks a change in how the toy industry will need to transform and adapt to a clean energy future." Who needs batteries when you got water and sun light?

Get 'em while can: $13.95 die-cast Chevy Volts

die-cast chevy voltStop reading this and go buy the 1:32 scale die-cast model of the Chevy Volt. BBurago is only making 7,500 of the promotional replicas commissioned by GM. My guess is these puppies are going to sell out pretty fast. I might order some myself just to be the first on block with the Chevy Volt.

What's the Chevy Volt, you might say, and why I am so excited about it? The Volt is GM's range extended electric vehicle that is expected to go on sale 2010. The Volt is an exciting program at GM and they are trying things they have never done before. The design will actually change slightly, so this die-cast will probably be a real collector's item some day.

You've seen solar, you've seen hydrogen - now, a wind-powered toy car!

I'm sure that you've seen those old weathervanes that people put up on top of their farmhouses, right? I seem to recall a certain copper rooster that my family had in our possession at one time or another. In this day of super-modern-style homes, how much cooler would it be to proudly display a Loopwing Wind Power Generator Set instead. It would look so much cooler if it was positioned near some roof-top solar cells too.

The Loopwing product was made in collaboration with Tamiya, who makes many toys and radio-control model kits. This particular toy does not appear to be controllable, just turn it on and let it go. Apparently, the power provided goes into a capacitor which will allow the car to operate for a full 3.5 hours, assuming there is enough wind, of course. I like this so much more than the hydrogen fuel cell cars that we've shown you in the past, and this one only costs thirty bucks.

It's Friday: enjoy a wooden, solar toy car

This car will never run out of batteries. Why? It runs on light. You don't have to worry about plastics in this toy. Why? It's wood. Yes, it's a solar-powered wooden car. All the right combinations in a toy car you have been waiting for.

This could be a great gift for a child or grown up that's a child at heart. The clean, modern design has several, basic colors and shapes. Some assembly is required but it does not look too complicated to me.

Hydrogen powered H-Racer named Time's "Invention of the Year"

Time magazine has named their inventions of the year for 2006 even though there's still more than a month to go on the calendar. In the transportation category, the winner is the H-Racer, the worlds smallest fuel cell powered car. The H-Racer is six inch long model car that has an electric motor powered by a real fuel cell. It also includes a solar powered hydrogen generating station. The hydrogen station has a water tank and generates hydrogen by electrolysis. The hydrogen storage cylinder in the car holds enough gas to power the car for about three minutes. If there isn't enough sun light to power the hydrogen generator, it can also run on 2 AA batteries. A fresh set of batteries can generate enough H2 to fill the tank in about 30 seconds. The kit is a really cool way to demonstrate electrolysis and fuel cells to a science class.
