Video: first look at John Goodwin's diesel add-on kit

Filed under: Biodiesel, Emerging Technologies, EV/Plug-in, Green Culture

NBC News got a look at mechanic John Goodwin's soon-to-be-released add-on kits for diesel cars in this video. The NBC video also takes a look under the hood of John's turbine, hybrid H3 that will get 60 MPG. That's not the only TV interview John has done recently. As promised, here is the article and full video of singer Neil Young and John Goodwin's appearance on CNN. In the CNN interview, John says "it's not cost-effective for someone to run out and spend $40,000 to double the fuel economy, but I have no shortage of customers." The CNN article also says John's $200 green conversion kit will include downloads to your car's computer.

John also did an interview with NPR's Weekend Edition last Sunday spreading the world that cars can be green and powerful. "The ironic thing is you can have a 1,000 horse power vehicle and get 25 MPG," says John. Below the fold is a video John did in June with Media Talk. Is John the first green, celebrity mechanic?

Fox News' eco driving tips

Wow, this is strange. The video is a Fox News radio PSA with tips on changing your habits to help combat climate change. Well... not climate change exactly. The PSA actually says even if you disagree with the concept of global warming you can still be more thoughtful and change those wasteful ways. Fox knows its audience.

The PSA, at about 1 minute and 45 seconds into the video, actually has tips for green driving. A tune up can save you 4 percent. Air filter 10 percent. Inflated tires help. They even talk about UPS trucks avoiding left turns. It's all apart of something called Cool Change but I can't seem to find too much (link is to pdf) about it. [Editor's note: try here]

Along with car tips, the PSAs also suggests buying Silent Spring and Gore's book. Water saving tips like rain barrels... all from a network that has consistently denied global warming. Rupert Murdoch is actually very green. News Corp is carbon neutral.

Children who spend time near roads more likely to develop asthma

As the good Rev. Lovejoy's wife often pleads, won't someone think of the children? Turns out, green car enthusiasts look out for children's health every day. Biodiesel, as we mentioned last week, has lower emissions than regular diesel. And this helps the children.

The Great Lakes Radio Consortium had a little piece yesterday about a study at the University of Southern California that found that children who live – or often play – near roads and highways were 50 percent more likely to develop asthma than children who did not spend as much time near roads. Researchers studied 6,000 school children in twelve Southern Californian communities with varying air pollution levels and patterns. European studies back up the findings, according to the GLRC. You can listen to the 45-second radio clip here.
