MyCar EVs now available in London from evstores for £9,995

The Hong Kong-built, Italy-designed MyCar CV.2 is now available for sale in the UK through Ev Stores in London. The little two-seater seems to fit in the quadicycle category along with the likes of the Reva G-Wiz thanks to its 40 mph top speed. Manufacturer EuAuto notes in the spec sheet that the speed potential and 70 mile range are both on "flat roads" so real world performance is likely to somewhat (extremely?) short of those numbers. Energy storage is by way of a pack comprising four 12V lead acid batteries so you'll likely be swapping those out every couple of years. Propulsion to the rear wheels is via a 3.73 kW DC motor, so acceleration will be leisurely. Ev Stores is asking £9,995 (approx $18,500) for the CV.2 but it is exempt from road and congestion taxes.

Aixam Mega takes over NICE Car Company

Perhaps it was because of a downturn in sales. Or maybe it was an overstreched expansion plan. Whatever the reason, the UK's NICE Car Company went into "administration" last November and since then, owners and prospective electric car buyers have been wondering what the final outcome would be. Well, now we know. Aixam Mega, who supplied NICE with their Mega City (above), has snapped up the company's assets and will continue to run the London sales office. According to the company's UK general manager Lawrence Holland, "We have retained the key sales and service facilities, as well as some personnel, to make the transfer of business as seamless as possible. Mega drivers should be reassured that, from their perspective, it is now 'business as normal' at NICE Car."

What is left out of the press release that awaits you after the jump is the fate of the non-Mega vehicles in the NICE range. You may recall, the Tazzari Zero was to be distributed by them and the MyCar was expected to arrive last December. While we're pretty sure the sporty Tazzari vehicle can find a future home, we suspect this might be the end of the road for some of the others.

NICE Car Co opens outlet in Europe's newest, biggest mall

The biggest shopping center in all of Europe opens today in London and one of the 265 retail spaces will belong to the NICE Car Company. If you happen to make it to the Westfield Shopping Center at Shepards Bush you can check out the Mega City and the MyCar (above) at their stand located on the ground floor by the Wood Lane tube entrance. You can even book a test drive in one of the all-electrics if you so desire. NICE co-founder Julian Wilford is, expectedly, pretty happy about the expansion which will see his transportation products sharing a roof with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Prada and De Beers. "This is another step forward for the NICE Car Company. Like our range of all-electric cars, vans and motorcycles, Westfield is stylish and will have a positive effect on its local environment. We look forward to showing visitors that well-designed, safe and affordable electric cars are available to buy right now." He may stay quite busy doing just that. The shopping center is located beside several high-income London suburbs and expects to receive millions of visitors a year.

MyCar wins GreenFleet electric vehicle of the year award

Officially launched at the British International Motor Show in July by NICE Car Company, MyCar was named electric vehicle of the year by GreenFleet this past Thursday in Twickenham, England. Sporting space for two occupants and born of an Italian pen, the tiny car from Hong Kong captured judges hearts by combining a stylish and practical design with low running costs. In the land where it will be sold, the all-electric MyCar gets to forgo congestion charges and road tax and, depending on where you juice up the batteries, can cost as little as 2 pence a mile to operate. Hopefully the prize will inspire an orderly queue of potential owners to form in preparation for the cars arrival to the NICE sales floor sometime next month. Cost of admission into the 40 mph / 40 mile range vehicle is a mere £8,995 ($16,220). The options list is quite interesting and we expect lots of takers for 15 inch wheels, leather, bluetooth and laptop dock.

As with every contest there were winners and losers runners-up. Two notable notables were the Th!nk City and the truck from Modec. The Th!nk City is all-electric and designed to be recycled while Modec is said to be making the first purpose-built electric light commercial vehicle. Although the Th!nk City has yet to go on sale in Britain (soon, we hope) according to GreenFleet there are over 110 copies of the Modec vehicle already on the streets displacing more than 990 tonnes of CO2 per year.

NICE: big automakers won't bring us electric cars

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle), UK

The London-based NICE (No Internal Combustion Engine) car company has issued a statement going full-throttle at the big automakers. The statement says that customers will have to "expect a long wait if they think that mainstream manufacturers" are going to start selling electric cars any soon. "It's easy to get caught up in talk of an electric car revolution," said NICE co-founder Evert Geurtsen. "However, we'd be very surprised if many of the all-electric sports cars, and other models that have been making headlines, hit showrooms within forecast time frames." Of course, once they got our attention, NICE then added that they have already a full range of electric cars and electric bikes which are already available, two NEVs, the Mega City and the MyCar, and a small minivan, called Ze-O. Find the full statement after the jump.

MyCar meets world again at British International Motor Show

It's been a long road for MyCar to make it to the public but now NICE Car Company will call the orphan its own and show it off to the hopefully adoring crowds at the upcoming British International Motor Show (BIMS). First displayed at Motor Show Bologna 2003, the Italian-designed city car for two began life as the product of a joint venture between a company called Innovech and the firm of Giorgetto Giugiaro. After a false start in 2006, MyCar has re-emerged and will make it to market with distribution by NICE and manufacturing by re-named, Hong Kong-based, EuAuto Technology.

With a range of 40 miles and a top speed of 40 mph, this quadricycle sits squarely in G-Wiz territory performance-wise. It does have a few tricks the Indian-built car lacks such as electric windows and mirrors, a choice of removable fiberglass or glass roof and a USB, Mp3 and SD input on its radio. Some of its cooler options include 15' wheels and leather seats as well as techno-geek friendly gadgetry like a laptop dock in the folding passenger seat, bluetooth and sat-nav. Safety hasn't been forgotten either and the car features a collapsible steering column and an energy absorbing front crash structure. Four wheel disc brakes and independent suspension should hopefully keep you out of trouble though. Prices should start at £8,995 when the car goes on sale this Autumn.
