Mullen Motor $125,000 L1X-75 GT all-electric sports car. It's no Tesla Roadster, but it's available much, much sooner

The Tesla Roadster is currently the preeminent electric sports car, thanks to a slick marketing campaign and some very impressive stats on the car itself. So, any electric car that attempts to be/look/act like the Roadster is going to have to be compared to it. Today's new contender: the all-electric, 120 mph L1X-75 GT from Mullen Motor Company and Hybrid Technologies Inc. (don't be fooled by the name, the L1X-75 GT is all-electric, not a hybrid).

Compared to the Roadster, the L1X-75 GT costs more ($125,000 vs. $92,000-100,000), has less range (100 miles vs. 250) but it has one thing the Roadster doesn't have: availability. The L1X-75 GT will be available in about eight weeks. If you haven't put your name in for one of the Signature 100 Roadsters, you won't get your hands on one until 2008. If you just need an electric sports car before then, the L1X-75 GT (or the Spyder, which will be available later this summer) might be right for you. The L1X-75 GT is made from Mullen GT donor cars with the drive system replaced.

Hybrid Technologies has been working for years on the L1X-75 GT and plans to market it first to the wealthy in Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the US. The carbon fiber body and vehicle platform are made in L.A. and the electric drive system is made in Mooresville, North Carolina (that's another difference from Tesla). The 100-mile range comes after 4-6 hours of charging.

Hybrid Technologies' full press release is after the jump.
