It's Friday: Daily Show explains why gas prices are so high

Filed under: Green Culture, Legislation and Policy

On a recent episode of the Daily Show, the spike and price of a barrel of oil was explained (see videos below the fold). The comedy news show's explanation includes $15 of the $104 for a barrel of oil going towards trying to convince the public that the oil companies are not raping the environment. Another $25 goes towards blackening the oil because oil actually comes out of the ground rainbow colored. Who knew? The Daily Show also took a shot at President Bush for his press conference where he said he was unaware of the predictions that gas prices could reach $4 a gallon and for his speech at the WIRC.

Video: Maher's maple syrup car on Letterman

Filed under: Ethanol, Flex-Fuel, Legislation and Policy

The late night talk shows are back! David Letterman has a beard and recently had Bill Maher as a guest. At about 7 minutes into the interview above, Bill and Dave talk about the Iowa primary and ethanol. Bill says the candidates pay "homage" to ethanol because it's made from corn and Iowa has corn. However, Bill thinks ethanol is a "boondoggle" and won't help with global warming. Then Bill pushes science forward with this funny exchange:

Bill: If the first primary was in Vermont, we'd be trying to run our cars on maple syrup. I promise you.
Dave: Now, would that work? That's not a bad idea. You are a genius my friend.

I can't wait for maple syrup cars. The highways would smell so good. To be fair, pancake sales might be hurt as the price of syrup skyrockets.

It's Friday: who holds back the electric car?

AutoblogGreen has obtained exclusive video from a powerful secret group admitting to holding back the electric car. The footage may also be a funny song from the episode Homer the Great of the animated TV show the Simpsons. Our crack staff of video experts is still trying to figure it out.

In the video, the organization called the Stonecutters, sings a song that includes the line "who holds back the electric car?" The crowd, which includes Steve Gutenberg and a Martian, then sings "we do!" The validity of the statements may be in question as the men all seem to be inebriated.
