AutoblogGreen Podcast #16 - Pimp My Ride's Beau Boeckmann

Filed under: Biodiesel, Emerging Technologies, EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Hydrogen, Chevrolet, Ford, GM, Detroit Auto Show, Podcasts, EVS23

We're back for AutoblogGreen Podcast #16. In this installment, Sebastian updates us on some of the really amazing things he saw while at EVS23 in Anaheim. Speaking of really cool stuff, our interview this time is with Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Autosports. Sebastian and Beau talk in depth about the crazyawesomelywild hybrid F450 that was done up for Pimp My Ride, while Sam got to see the Chevy Volt showing a little leg on a recent tour of the E-Flex design studio. We take some time to discuss the Volt and E-Flex in depth, touching on some of the discoveries that have been made as the platform gets developed, as well as how far along the E-Flex is, which is surprising. We're looking ahead to NAIAS in Detroit in a few weeks, for now, enjoy this installment, clocking in at 43 minutes.

UPDATE: Read the transcript and view a picture of Beau's truck here.

AutoblogGreen content being swiped

I was perusing my Technorati feeds this evening when I spotted some familiar words. It was the post I wrote this morning about Saab bringing their flex-fuel cars to the Australian market. However it wasn't coming from this site. It was on a page hosted over on Wordpress.com, a free blog hosting service from the creators of wordpress. I checked out the site and it was populated with all the posts from AutoblogGreen.com. It had all the images on our posts, links, everything. Well almost everything. There was no attribution or references to AutoblogGreen. Wordpress.com support has been contacted and hopefully the site will get shutdown promptly. In the meantime if you're reading this content and you're not on the AutoblogGreen.com site, please go there and let us know where you found our content. Quoting other's content and commenting on it is OK but it needs to be attributed and hopefully linked. That's how the web works.

update: Wordpress.com responded very quickly and the site in question has been taken down. However, if you do spot content from AutoBlog or AutoBlogGreen being posted anywhere else without attribution please let us know.

Siemens' eCorner motor-in-hub concept

Now check this out. Sister blog Engadget found out about Siemens' cool next-gen car technology that crams all sorts of goodies into the wheel and hub (all right, Engadget found it through our good friends at Autoblog). The goodies include an electronic motor, an active suspension system, Siemens' very own electronic wedge brake and an independent steer-by-wire function. All of these technologies have existed independently for a while, but this is the first time they've been packed together in a wheel. It's a dangerous place for all these components, but if the thing works, the power needed to move a car would be lowered dramatically. You can read Siemens' full press release here.
