Inside the Caucus Room you'll be able to check out bikes from several area stores and chat with a host of other alternative transportation agencies and manufacturers. Outside, you will be able to ride Segways and see and sit in over 20 of the coolest alternative vehicles on the market today! No registration is required. If you could go, what would you ask these exhibitors?

Ford Edge HySeries Drive spotted ahead of the DC Auto Show

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Hydrogen, Ford

Following the unveiling of the Airstream concept at the just concluded Detroit Auto Show, a Ford spokesman informed me that the drive-train of the concept had already been tested in an Edge, and promised me a drive. Unfortunately, the first opportunity popped up last week just before they shipped the vehicle to Washington for the DC Auto Show, and I couldn't fit it into my schedule. However, once they unloaded it in DC, George Achorn spotted it giving rides to some Washington luminaries ahead of the show. Hopefully I will be getting my ride opportunity next week. In the meantime go check out what George had to say at the Read link.

Saturn Provides Environmental Focus and Fun to Washington D.C. Consumers

Filed under: Green Culture, Hybrid, Saturn

If you're in the Washington, DC area October 26-29, 2006, you may want to go check out the Saturn Greenhouses. Saturn will be sponsoring three special environmental displays in conjunction with the Marine Corps Marathon. The greenhouses will be set up at Union Station, the Reagan Building and the Marine Corps Marathon Expo center. Sam Grawe of Dwell Magazine will be speaking at the Union Station greenhouse at 4:30pm on the 26th about "Sustainability and Architectural Design". There will be live music from local musicians, a kids Arts & Scraps car building activity with recycled materials, organic food cooking demos, environmental demonstrations, tree seeding giveaways and a special relaxation station at the Marathon Expo site.

As you might expect from such and event, General Motors will be prominently displaying one of their newest products. The star of the show will be the new Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid. The full schedule of events will be up on the Saturn web site beginning October 23. Admission is free as are apples and beverages and no registration is required.

Use less gas everyone. Seriously

Cindy over at Domestic Fuel lets rip a little bit of a rant, and it’s good that she did. Her anger or frustration at the “all hat no cattle” public personas of our supposed leaders on sustainability issues is warranted and timely, what with Hastert’s recent fake photo op (is that redundant?). I agree that one of the keys to solving this mess we’re in (and yes, we’re in a mess) is to simply use less and enjoy more. I saw a sign – perhaps by some group like the Ad Council – that suggested people replace the Sunday drive with the Sunday walk. That’s the kind of common sense advice that can really make a difference.
