Video: Citroën apes The Italian Job at Sexy Green Car Show

Who says that frugal and fun can't go together in the same sentence? It could be argued that using Minis -- both classic and current -- in the chase scenes of the movie(s) The Italian Job made them fairly eco-friendly already... well, at least as friendly as a filmed chase scene could be. At least they didn't use muscle cars, right? But at this year's Sexy Green Car Show, Citroën has apparently decided that the classic scene needed to be recreated using as little fuel as possible. To that end, a thirty second film spot was made which features Citroën's little C1, a car capable of delivering nearly seventy miles per gallon while emitting just 108g/km of carbon dioxide. Fittingly, the three C1s featured in the advertisement are red, white and blue - the same colors as the Minis that were initially used in The Italian Job movies. We'll be honest... the video pasted after the break isn't nearly as entertaining as the original, but it's fun in its own little way.

Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel to be shown at Eden Sexy Green Car Show

The World's Sexiest Greenest Car Show is back; bigger, better and sexier than ever... so says the home page of The Co-Operated Insurance Sexy Green Car Show. Like last year, the Sexy Green Car Show promises to show off some of the best green car concepts to a captive British audience. Chief among these vehicles will be the Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel. Initially shown at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the Exige 270E is capable of running on gasoline, ethanol or methanol. A sophisticated computer system can detect what type of fuel the vehicle has been fed and can adjust necessary engine parameters to use that fuel. In the process, Lotus was able to tune the engine to extract a bit more power, 270 horses to be exact.

In addition to the car itself, Lotus is reportedly working on a new method of creating methanol which involves the extraction of waste carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. A chemical reaction with hydrogen produces both methanol and water. If a clean source for the production of methanol were indeed possible, flex-fuel vehicles could add it to their stable of power sources.

The Sexy Green Car Show... right. I am not entirely sure that those words should all be brought together in the same sentence, but... whatever. I do think that the premise of the show is a sound one. Showing consumers what is currently available, what may soon be available and what may soon be possible when it comes to alternative energy vehicles is clearly a step in the right direction. So, to help do just that, we present you with this video. The video was provided by Newconsumer.tv and placed on Youtube. Interested in greening up your commute? Watch the video.

Also, how cool is the Lola sports car running on 50 percent biodiesel?

Ford bringing Sexy (Green) back to Eden Project car show

The last time we wrote about the Sexy Green Car Show in the UK, we used a picture of Saab's Aero X E100 concept coupe. The Aero X is just one of many green cars that will be on display; the Smart EV, hybrids from various makers, and a lot of Saab BioPower vehicles will all be at Britain's largest green car show.

Ford is bringing an 80-year-old green stable to the Sexy Green Car Show. The company's list includes a 1920s Ford Model T, the latest Ford Focus flexifuel vehicles and a Formula Ford racing car, all bioethanol-capable. The Eden Project, where the Sexy Green show will take place, encourages people to visit without driving - attendees can get reduced ticket prices if the arrive using alternative transportation, for example - yet 86 per cent of visitors to Eden still arrive in a car.

Oh, and the headline to this post is a pop song reference. This year's Sexy Green Car Show is the first one, and it starts March 30th.
