VW brings new Golf estate and the Passat BlueMotion to Germany

The Euro 5-ready Phaeton TDI may be the more exciting vehicle that Volkswagen is bringing to Auto Mobil International 2007 this week, but let's not forget the debut German appearance of the Passat BlueMotion and the new VW Golf estate.

From now until Sunday, AMI attendees in Leipzig can check out the continued greening of VW's fleet. Official details are after the jump, but eco-drivers might find something to like in the smaller-engined Golf's 5.2 liters per 100 km diesel usage (petrol version also available) or the Passat Bluemotion's 136/137 g/km of CO2 emissions for the saloon/estate. The Golf's larger diesel version, the Golf estate 2.0 TDI, uses 5.6 liters for the 100 km trip while spewing 148 g/km of CO2.

VW will bring 102 Polo BlueMotions to Geneva - one for each g/km of CO2

Filed under: Diesel, Volkswagen, Geneva Motor Show

In a clever PR touch, Volkswagen will bring 102 of its new Polo BlueMotions to Geneva. That's one vehicle for each gram of CO2 the car emits per kilometer it drives (in testing, at least). We know a little about the car (see here) and the other goodies VW is bringing to the show (like the Passat BlueMotion you can see below), but not much about these: the Caddy Life Edition concept car and the Multivan Panamericana and VW's 'Future of the Car' interactive display. All the company is saying now is, "At present we do not have any further details on these cars, other than what you already know!" Thanks a lot, VW. We're ready to stop waiting now.

Geneva Preview: Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion

Filed under: Diesel, Volkswagen, Geneva Motor Show

Click on the image for a high res gallery of the BlueMotion Passat

The BlueMotion version of the mid-sized Volkswagen Passat is coming to the Geneva Motor Show in March. BlueMotion is the model designation VW is applying to the cleanest, most efficient variant of each of their platforms, and the Passat BlueMotion model is rated at 46 mpg which is pretty impressive for a car of this size. The CO2 emissions are rated at 136g/km.

That efficiency means that a Passat BlueMotion can go almost 840 miles between fill ups. The BlueTec-equipped four cylinder diesel is rated at 105 hp and has a top speed of 120 mph, if you happen to be on one of the remaining unrestricted sections of the autobahn. It's unknown at this point if the Passat BlueMotion will come stateside, although other diesel Passat models should be headed this way, now that oil-burners are starting to catch on. The VW press release is after the jump.

Pictures of the Polo BlueMotion going to rock the UK with 72.4 mpg and 102 g/km CO2

Volkswagen's efficient diesel technology, BlueMotion, will be coming to the UK later this summer in a Polo. As we wrote about the other day, the Passat BlueMotion will be unveiled in Geneva next month. Even though SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan said the other day that consumers don't want to buy cars with emissions below 120 g/km, the Polo BlueMotion spits out just 102 g/km with its official mileage rating of 72.4 mpg. You think no ones going to want to buy this car?

We've mentioned the Polo BlueMotion a few times before, but now we've got nice, shiny pictures, so we're bringing it up again. Plus, 72.4 mpg. C'mon.

You know the drill. Press release after the jump, high-res photos in the gallery. The images are downloadable for your personal use.

VW Passat BlueMotion to debut in Geneva

Filed under: Diesel, Volkswagen, Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva Motor Show is coming up in a little over five weeks and the news about debuts is starting to roll out. One of the new models that will see the light of day in Switzerland is the Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion. VW is using the BlueMotion label to indicate the least-thirsty version of each of their models, such as the Polo BlueMotion. Since Volkswagen doesn't make any hybrids, that means all the BlueMotion models will be diesels. In the case of the Passat, it will emit 103g/km of CO2 and have a fuel consumption rating of 60.3 mpg. In order to achieve those figures, VW will probably be tweaking the aerodynamics, possibly including smaller mirrors, modified fascia with openings closed off and narrower tires. The gearing will probably be optimized and lower rolling resistance tires will be used.
