Lutz calls for crash test break so small cars can be brought to U.S. {Autoblog Green}

Sep 3rd 2008 4:47PM I agree with the idea but I can just see the insurance industry use this as an excuse to jack their rates on these "non-qualified" vehicles.

Sep 3rd 2008 1:38PM Come on Nissan, slap your logo on this and call it the new Versa.

Aug 28th 2008 10:00PM They may have to put a button for the driver to force the engine on so that it stays lubed and the gas doesn't go bad. Or they could do it electronically by having the engine turn on automatically from time to time, even if the battery is topped off.

Aug 28th 2008 9:56PM Normally I would agree with you Sam, but in the video FofR links to below at 0:38, they open the door and it appears to have a finished interior. If it was just a fiberglass shell, why would they bother lining the doors?

Aug 28th 2008 9:11PM That is really cool. I kinda wish the Volt logo was a little smaller. But I guess that's the GM way. Look at the ginormous H-Y-B-R-I-D badges on the 2-mode SUVs.

BREAKING: Is this the production Chevy Volt in Transformers 2? {Autoblog Green}

Aug 28th 2008 7:58PM That is definitely the Volt. Now the question is whether it is a real Volt mule or if it is just a Cruze with Volt body panels.

Rumormill: Cadillac to get its own Volt? {Autoblog}

Aug 26th 2008 3:00PM Exactly. No one designs a powertrain to be used just in just one model anymore. It wouldn't make economic sense.

Rumormill: Cadillac to get its own Volt? {Autoblog}

Aug 26th 2008 2:58PM Not from a packaging standpoint. You'd have a rear-engine/RWD car, like a Porsche. The gas engine would take up the whole trunk. To do a front-engine/RWD car, they would need to run a driveshaft from the electric motors in the front or move the electric motors to the rear. Since the middle of the car is filled with batteries, the only feasible option is to move the motors to the rear.
