The $4/gallon noose tightens: credit cards not welcome at some gas stations {Autoblog Green}

Jun 19th 2008 8:24AM What the gas stations really want is for everyone to use their in-store ATM. That way, they earn a profit every time you use their machine to get enough cash to pay for your tank of gas.

eBay finds of the day: Two Owosso Pulse GCRVs {Autoblog Green}

Mar 12th 2008 8:56AM Wow, I work in the city of Owosso, and we used to see the Pulse on the roads around here all of the time!

They are certainly eye-grabbing and make a good commuting vehicle (except for when the snow is deep!). I was just thinking the other day that someone should revive this product - I'm sure the tooling is around somewhere.

Detroit 2008: Nissan Forum concept - diesel-powered family transport {Autoblog Green}

Dec 19th 2007 8:36AM Why does the press always dump on mini-vans? They get better mileage and hold more stuff than SUV's. Give me a plug-in hybrid gas or diesel mini-van and I'll have a nearly perfect vehicle for work and play.

Video: Fly Bo - a 150 mile-range, Smart look-a-like EV - on sale in Michigan (just don't use it in winter) {Autoblog Green}

Dec 17th 2007 10:03AM Hey, Michigan weather's not all that bad. We have our cold season, but we don't have massive floods, fires, or hurricanes. We don't have earth quakes, and I've never seen a tornado.

Motorcycles are very popular in Michigan. A car like this would make sense for city drivers to use at least 9 months per year.

The ethanol backlash is accelerating; even the cows aren't happy {Autoblog Green}

Nov 29th 2007 9:11AM E85 costs 10% less than gas, but gets 25% worse mileage. The cost/benefit is just not there.

Someday I'm going to have a small wind turbine on my property generating electricity for a plug-in hybrid.

Mythbusters: drafting 10 feet behind a big rig will improve mileage 39 percent {Autoblog Green}

Oct 29th 2007 11:16AM To go one step better, I'd like to have a mechanism that attaches my car to the bar that's on the back of big-rig trailers. Then I could coast and read a book. ;)

One explanation for fewer bikes on the roads: fear of cars {Autoblog Green}

Jun 7th 2007 12:03PM I ride over 100 miles weekly for fitness and recreation, plus I commute into work whenever possible. Motorists may seem stupid to you when you are in you car, but observe their behavior from the seat of a bike and you'll be amazed at how moronic they can be!

They pass me on blind up-hills. They pass me 50 feet from a stop sign. They pull out in front of me, not realizing that I may be moving at 20 to 25 MPH. They don't see me because they are yapping on their cell phones.

So, to stay alive, I ride aggressively and with extreme alertness. I may appear to be a "Lance Armstrong" wannabe, but I'm really just trying to stay alive. I observe traffic laws and claim my fair space on the road.

My life has value. I am not going to stop riding because I'm afraid of getting hit by a motorist.

Playing Devil's Advocate, Part 2: The Chevy Volt {Autoblog Green}

May 17th 2007 11:13AM Great article. The Volt is a very important product for GM and the American people. It could be the first mainstream electric (hybrid) electric car to really capture the hearts of the car-buying public. GM might need to add a fake "V8" sound module to the car for it to appeal to the enthusiast crowd, but if the car reduces our dependence upon foreign oil, anything that helps to sell the car is fine with me.

If we fight the war at home, we won't need to fight it overseas.

Chrysler to highlight fuel economy in new round of dealer ads {Autoblog Green}

May 9th 2007 9:11AM Go to any fast food restaurant at lunch time. There could be 20 cars waiting in line, all idling because they are too lazy to go into the building to get their Big Mac.

Most of the time, it's faster to order inside than it is to use the drive-through.

Want to commute by bicycle? Here's how to get started {Autoblog Green}

May 4th 2007 9:26AM In most any city, a skilled bicyclist can get from point A to point B as fast as most motorists. My commute is 10 miles one way, and it only takes 20 minutes longer to bicycle than drive. This includes 7 miles of rural riding at about 18 MPH.

Bicycles are extremely efficient machines. They have the added benefit of keeping the rider fit, plus the exercise raises healthy endorphins, making the bicycle commuter feel very energized upon showing up at the workplace.
