Father's Day Sweepstakes, Day 5: TomTom ONE 3rd Edition {Autoblog}

Jun 20th 2008 4:17PM Got him a CCR box set and am planning him a steak dinner for next weekend (he's a truck driver and has been on the road since 6/12).

2009 Kia Soul bares itself ahead of Paris {Autoblog}

May 22nd 2008 2:48PM I test drove both a 2006 and 2008 xB back-to-back. There was no contest. The 2008 drives like a truck compared to the go-cart feel of the 2006. And, through some evil I've yet to understand, the 2008 has less room even though it's over a foot longer. Throw in crappy fuel mileage and I found myself considering a Kia Rondo over the new xB. That can't be good.

Hybra-Drive hydraulic hybrid to undergo HTUF testing {Autoblog Green}

May 11th 2008 11:47AM According to the article, this is a series hybrid, just like the Ford Explorer 4WD that the EPA built in 2004 using a VW 1.9L diesel engine. That vehicle was estimated to get nearly 60MPG. Using a Hummer one could easily expect mileage in the upper 30's at least.

Remote hybrid helper concept turns any semi into a hybrid {Autoblog Green}

Apr 25th 2008 5:40PM This essentially makes the trailer a double, which requires a special endorsement on a CDL and is nearly impossible to back up. Also, the "push" mode would have to transmit torque through a hitch and a fifth wheel to help the truck along, something I'm not sure a kingpin and fifth wheel are designed to do.

America likely won't be getting a Smart diesel soon {Autoblog Green}

Apr 20th 2008 1:54PM Yall talk as if Smart can just wave a wand and deliver a T2B5 diesel motor. The fact is our emissions limits are far too strict to be met cheaply. A T2B5 Smart would likely be $20,000 and have fuel mileage in the low 60s due to the exhaust system. If the EPA and Federal Government would work together with the EU about setting emissions limits then any vehicle sold in Europe could be brought here, but that takes forward thinking and real concern for the people; things our government has lacked for decades.

Track time with the Smart ForTwo {Autoblog Green}

Apr 15th 2008 9:21AM A loaded up ForTwo Passion is around $15,000. To have a Corolla with the same level of equipment would run you closer to $17,000. Of course one can find a Corolla cheaper, but then they lose out on the sunroof or aluminum wheels or some other nicety.

Ahhh, spring: European diesel cabrios {Autoblog Green}

Apr 14th 2008 11:56AM There is not a single vehicle on that list that gets less than 28MPG combined. Now why the hell can't the EPA just match emissions laws with Europe?

New 2010 Ford 4.4-liter diesel engine scooped! {Autoblog}

Apr 13th 2008 12:40PM Well, if you want to prevent the customer from putting in the wrong fluid then normally you'd establish a standard nozzle/receptacle size. Since nozzle sizes in this case are out of control of the manufacturer (or any other business) then the solution is to either make the receptacle a certain shape that hinders nozzle insertion or to place it in a hard-to-reach area.

New 2010 Ford 4.4-liter diesel engine scooped! {Autoblog}

Apr 13th 2008 12:21PM A diesel Mustang would not only get great mileage, but with the low revs and high torque of said motor it would behave more like a muscle car. Heck, my dad loves his Ram 2500 Cummins partly because he can lay rubber for as long as his foot is in the throttle. Who cares if you can only go 95 when you have 610lb-ft at 1600RPM?
