John McCain gets production Chevy Volt sneak preview {Autoblog Green}

Jul 19th 2008 11:23AM And who killed the $6000 EV credit in December's Energy Bill?

McCain.

He was back in Washington, just couldn't be bothered to drive over for the cloture vote. It missed by one vote. 59-43

No doubt Harry Reid had thought McCain would be a yes vote with all the talk. He is one passive agressive jerk.

Toyota vs. Jim Press - Did Toyota get government help for hybrids? {Autoblog Green}

Apr 2nd 2008 9:47PM The Japanese government provided subsidies to condsumers who bought the Prius

http://www.evaap.org/japan.html
"In 1997, the government set a target for the diffusion of clean energy vehicles in 2010, in light of the targeted reduction of carbon dioxide emissions based on the Kyoto protocol at the third Conference of the Parties (COP3) of the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change. The target for clean energy vehicles was 3.44 million units in operation by 2010 including 200,000 electric vehicles, 1.8 million hybrid vehicles, and 1 million CNG vehicles. Further, the aim is for 210,000 units of advanced battery equipped vehicles, such as fuel cell vehicles, to be in operation by 2010. The target was revised in July 2001 at the board of investigation of natural resources and energy, reducing the number of electric vehicles and increasing the number of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. Of fuel cell vehicles, the METI also set targets of about 50,000 units for 2010 and about 5,000,000 units for 2020."

Bob Lutz: First-gen Volt might cost $40,000 {Autoblog Green}

Jan 26th 2008 2:39PM Maybe this is why Clinton and Obama both propose upping to $10,000 the subsidies to get us into PHEVs and BEVs.

Toyotas Prius neede big subsidies to get going in Japan initially too.

EPA head takes our advice, skips meeting with Sen. Boxer {Autoblog Green}

Jan 10th 2008 7:24PM Boxer is the best Senator on climate change, and is the chair of the Environment Committee. If we had 10 more Democrats in the Senate she could have passed a terrific energy bill.

She has berated, begged, badgered, entreated, yelled at and generally dissed Johnson in numerous hearings on the Hill, though, so he probably felt she can't do this back home during recess too!

But January 2009, I hope we can show him the door!
Even more important than who is president, is getting a majority in the Senate.

AutoblogGreen looking for new bloggers. You interested? {Autoblog Green}

Jan 9th 2008 10:35AM I'd love to help you vet your coverage of legislative actions in congress (progress, lack of, and why, and what we can do to change that).
I don't have a clue about vehicle tech details, and barely ever blog as you see:
http://dotcommodity.dailykos.com/
so I could not presume to write for you, but you do get things wrong in your coverage of what's happening legislatively, which I could help you with. Just editing.

Many presidential candidates support coal-to-liquid fuel {Autoblog Green}

Jan 8th 2008 10:54PM This is out of context:

All year long the Republicans have been fighting the clean energy bill because it did not have enough coal, oil n nukes for them - they don't have any sun or wind or ocean or biomass or geothermal or hydro power in their states, poor babies.
They wanted $12 billion for making fuel from Murkas own coal to fight that fornoil from terrists.

The environmental groups shut it down. Obama originally voted with them, but then backed out after education from the environmental activists, and got smacked down by Inohofe for being a traitor to dirty energy.

Obama On Coal To Gas Synfuel -WRONG!

After the amendment failed, the Democrats agreed to fund $2 billion for RESEARCH to see if it could be made cleanly. Clinton was clear that this was R&D money only in the context of her quote.

All the Republican candidates except MCain really could give a shit about climate disruption. The solution to global warming? Drill in Murka.

Win a GMC Yukon hybrid and, oh yeah, a $2 million house too! {Autoblog Green}

Jan 2nd 2008 8:27PM "the Florida keys?"
Property Insurance rates went up 5-fold in Florida because climate disruption will hit them hard...this house is probably in a neighbourhood of full unsaleable houses

Paris "about to launch" a cheap rental service featuring 2,000 electric cars {Autoblog Green}

Jan 2nd 2008 8:18PM Great idea: I too want to start an EV rental service...I'll buy a Tesla first.... :-D

DaimlerChrysler gets record $30M CAFE fine {Autoblog Green}

Dec 30th 2007 12:52PM We're in luck, sensitiveman:

indeed that is just where the fines WILL go in our new 2007 CAFE bill. I had the same thought as you, and so I combed through the final signed bill:

"Sec. 112. Use of civil penalties for research and development:

Use of Civil Penalties- For fiscal year 2008 and each fiscal year thereafter, from the total amount deposited in the general fund of the Treasury during the preceding fiscal year from fines, penalties, and other funds obtained through enforcement actions conducted pursuant to this section...

half goes to blah, blah, blah, the other half goes to...:

...shall be used by the Secretary to carry out a program to make grants to manufacturers for retooling, reequipping, or expanding existing manufacturing facilities in the United States to produce advanced technology vehicles and components.

Subaru EV could arrive as early as 2009 {Autoblog Green}

Dec 26th 2007 5:58PM Autobloggreen,
could you please get Subaru to tell you explicitly that they will sell this in the USA? Green Car Congress only "assumes" they would...

I have contacted them about the R1E and they always have said its only going to be sold in the ECE market(ie the entire rest of the civilized world,) not here in the US.

Please, find out! Fantastic news, if so!
