Stanford students think PANDA is the answer to silent EVs/hybrids {Autoblog Green}

Jun 3rd 2008 9:28PM Ridiculous. My 4-cylinder sedan is near-silent at low speeds. So will ALL quiet cars need loudspeakers now?

If we're going to start going down this road, what's next?; strobe lights to help the deaf?, wheelchair accessibility to not offend the handicapped?, all cars must be FREE so as not to offend the impoverished?, surround cars in goose-down pillows to protect stupid/arrogant pedestrians?, voice-activation in order to not offend the limb-less? This is so stupid it almost smells like a covert attempt to kill the electric car, ...again. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

More on Martin Eberhard's departure from Tesla Motors {Autoblog Green}

Dec 5th 2007 10:58AM No class, this was handled very poorly, especially considering the profile of Eberhard. Makes me worry about the people calling the shots. Was such a drastic, nasty action necessary? My guess is they've completely underestimated the damage this will do to their credibility and perception in the market.

As for Ze’ev Drori, he seems to jump into existing companies, dust them off, then sell them. Is he preparing Tesla for a merger or sale?

If I'd plunked down a deposit, I'd be really nervous right now.

Nightmare Scenario: One of the Big 3 offers them a whack of money under the guise of starting their own program, the program is then cancelled, poof, no more Telsa.

Who's behind a better lithium-ion hybrid/EV battery? Why, it's Exxon Mobil {Autoblog Green}

Nov 29th 2007 1:44PM Exactly Tony, ...this has nothing to do with trying to be green or evolve their business. Any oil company working on batteries is doing it as a blocking strategy to prevent others from disrupting their business model. They're seeing Tesla, Zenn, Th!nk, etc. and are using Exxon's vast money and industry resources to beat them at their own game, then block.

How to make AutoblogGreen better for you - suggestions needed for new categories {Autoblog Green}

Nov 8th 2007 10:48AM First off, the site is great, I surf it like PORN! "Bill" is a freak.

A few ideas:

1) NAV REDESIGN: Gotta rework the nav. Top pull-down with subsections so you can funnel down to your interest (but you're already doing that, right?! ;)

2) WHEN DAMMIT?!: It seems like we're terminally on the cusp of the next generation of the automobile. It would be neat to have a "tracking" page. Show companies with cars close to market, electric and otherwise and show the Company, Model, power source, price, due date, and extensions (how many times they've bumped the due date). Lay it out like an airport arrivals screen, maybe even make the columns "rankable" ie: lowest to highest price, earliest to latest due date, most extensions, etc. (but your programmers will probably hate you, ...and me!)

3) STORE: How about a store? License plate frames, stickers, car geek accessories

I like a lot of the ideas posted here, ...not sure about the enviro big picture stuff though, ...if you're on this site, you're already informed and there are other sites out there already doing it.

Keep up the good work!

Ballard says fuel cells not worth it, confirms rumors it's selling automotive unit {Autoblog Green}

Nov 7th 2007 12:57PM Wow, this is HUGE!

If Ballard Power cannot make auto fuel cells viable after over a decade of development, massive funding, and key auto industry partnerships, no one can.

I think most E-car enthusiasts who have taken a few minutes to look at the logistics of implementing hydrogen cars across North America have realized that it is so daunting as to be virtually impossible.

But to have one of the pioneers of the fuel cell publicly "give up" on cars isn't just the last nail in the coffin, ...it's the last nail, then setting the coffin on fire, then doing a happy dance on the ashes.

The challenge now is to funnel at least SOME of that fuel cell development money toward electric-only technology and not just biodiesel and ethanol for dinosaur engines.

Miles Automotive tried to stop Tesla from getting "advanced air bag" exemption {Autoblog Green}

Oct 23rd 2007 4:57PM Yeah, this is crazy, what a waste of time and energy, I don't understand why Miles is deliberately sandbagging Tesla?

Actions speak louder than words and it's clear to me that if Miles considers THIS issue worthy of their time, and a cause worth fighting, they're going to be making golf carts for a really long time.

The person(s) responsible at Miles should take their head out of their butt and focus on the goals ahead.

Viva la Tesla!

Do big company electric car concepts herald trouble ahead for Tesla and other start-ups? {Autoblog Green}

Oct 17th 2007 10:27AM To know the future, you must understand the past. The major manufacturers will NEVER build EV's in any large volumes, they disrupt too much of their revenue model. Most of them are barely talking about hybrids, the ones that are are using the technology to build faster cars, not more efficient ones, and GM says there's still isn't even a battery that will work! The all-electric startups have nothing to worry about, they will do very well over the next 10 years as long as they can fend off the political, PR, and marketing wars that the majors will volley at them. The threat isn't product, it's politics.

Will the Tesla WhiteStar be a battery powered Ford Fusion? {Autoblog Green}

Feb 22nd 2007 10:03PM Hmm, this guy http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/columnists/story.html?id=9abb948f-389c-49e1-aa8d-f83943280c44 says Ford is supplying the body panels, but Siry gets all pissed about it being called an electric Fusion, ...maybe they got a smokin' deal on the old ESCORT tooling?! LOL!
