T-Mobile to debut 3G as voice-only. No data. We're over it. {Engadget}

Apr 30th 2008 8:21PM Thanks John Doe. Not so much new, rather more of a lurker who has a bit of knowledge about mobile tech :)

T-Mobile to debut 3G as voice-only. No data. We're over it. {Engadget}

Apr 30th 2008 5:27PM T-Mobile has less spectrum than the other players. Hence they have less network capacity than the others. They are deploying 3G because it is more spectrum efficient. I.e. they will be able to handle more calls in the same amount of spectrum.

Verizon sues Time Warner Cable over some dumb ads {Engadget}

Apr 10th 2008 12:34PM I just moved from MA to CA. In MA I had FiOS and it was great. In my neighborhood in CA the only choice is TWC and now I pay more for fewer TV channels, a slower Internet connection that is down at least once a week and a phone service that was down for a whole day last month.

Please Verizon, come to SoCal and safe us from TWC.

Geneva '08: Saab 9-X BioHybrid concept, ethanol, hybrid, solar and aero {Autoblog Green}

Mar 3rd 2008 1:07PM Another show, another Saab concept. I wish they'd invest less in these silly form over function concepts and more in new product.

I used to own a Saab 9-5, which was a nice to drive car, but the current version is ugly and looks to be the same car underneath as back in 2000. The 9-3 got a nice and much needed facelift, but appears to be the same old technology underneath too.

Ubuntu Brainstorm: Vote on the Ubuntu features you'd like to see {Download Squad}

Mar 1st 2008 5:46PM Just ran an Kubuntu liveCD last night, couldn't get my WiFi to work (Belkin Pre-N on USB), this is a major barrier to widespread adoption.

I think the Linux community should focus more on bringing innovation to the UI. Right now KDE and GNOME are copies of existing commercial OS's and both are _good enough_. I think we need a new UI that is less application centric (too complex for the aging population) and more user activity centric.

Finally, minimizing power consumption is a responsible thing to do.

Diesel VS Hybrid VS Ethanol, which is best? {Autoblog Green}

Nov 13th 2007 2:47PM There are simple economics involved in the push for E85:
1. The car manufacturers only have to make minor investments and add minor cost to the vehicle to make it ethanol capable and hence their bottom line remains relatively intact while they can claim they are 'Green'.
2. Farmers love ethanol because it drives up the price for corn.
3. Oil companies only love ethanol if they can make more money on it than on gasoline. Ethanol readily delivers due to higher fuel consumption. Without the higher revenues, there is no incentive for them to invest.
4. Politicians want to get re-elected so they love ethanol too because it wins them voters and campaign funds.

And so, the environment is hardly considered in this push for ethanol. Ethanol does have a minor positive impact on the trade balance though.
