Volkswagen prices 2009 Jetta TDI from $21,990 {Autoblog}

Jun 18th 2008 7:03PM well, its true I haven't, but I meant high voltage electrical issues and having to deal with the battery pack.

Jun 18th 2008 6:37PM Sounds like the first girl didn't replace the timing belt when it was due - can't really blame the car for that. On the other hand, the L61 in the Cobalt uses a timing chain which is "maintenance free" (or at least should be until 300,000 miles or so if you keep clean oil in the engine)

Chevy getting new small, turbocharged car next year {Autoblog}

Jun 3rd 2008 8:34AM @dpeppers - I'm not saying that every dealer does, or that I have any inside information that leads me to believe my claim. What it seems like to me is when you have people who can only sell certain cars made by a company, they are going to try to get that company to let them sell as many different cars as possible to appeal to as many different customers as possible.

You at least sound like one of the more reasonable dealers out there, but there are a lot of dealers who will stop at nothing to increase the bottom line. I personally have been trying to buy a new chevy for the past year, but I haven't been able to go all the way through the transaction with a single dealer in Houston without the salesman or one of the managers outright lying to me. I have had bait-and-switch and sales people refusing to honor internet quotes (even when I was referred to them by the internet department). As such, Chevy's sale numbers have been one lower than they could have been if they simply had an honest dealer network. When ford is taking a hit on profit selling hybrid escapes, why should dealers be marking them up 5k? The American car companies could get a pretty nice edge over the imports if they stepped in to try to curb some of this behavior.

Jun 2nd 2008 7:40PM GM is also crippled by their dealer network. If they really want to be able to compete with the likes of Honda, they need to get rid of the scum crying for them to badge engineer every model they make.

May 8th 2008 8:55PM many different spacecraft (from commercial satellites to the ISS) do use either momentum wheels or CMGs for attitude control. the safety concerns with large flywheels comes more from the momentum of the debris that flies away from the wheel when it is damaged. generally when one of these breaks, there's very little left still spinning afterwards.

Yamaha and Honda join 12 car makers in testing anti-collision technology {Autoblog}

Feb 26th 2008 8:37PM It's amazing how hard that is for most people to accomplish. Just today I was riding my motorcycle and a woman in an SUV tried merging into me. The most amazing part is most of my motorcycle was actually in front of her bumper - she didn't look over at all before merging!

Honda touts heat-harnessing hybrid technology {Autoblog}

Feb 21st 2008 8:25AM so this sounds pretty similar to the system developed by BMW that was demonstrated 2 something years ago: http://www.gizmag.com/go/4936/

Also, Atkinson cycle hybrids still show significant gains over comparable Otto cycle vehicles at highway speeds, especially when the engine is sized small enough to require electric boost for satisfactory acceleration performance.

New Crown Hybrid could foretell Toyota's new sales strategy {Autoblog}

Feb 20th 2008 8:01AM I hope it gets better mileage than the Lexus hybrids.
