How long until we get one? A short history of the ultralight RMI Hypercar {Autoblog Green}
Sep 11th 2007 6:21PM Starts from a bogus premise, ends at a bogus conclusion. A moving vehicle has two resistance forces to overcome: (1) Tire drag (road friction, gravitational inertia) and (2) Air drag. Doubling speed causes no increase in the one, but squares the resistance impact force of the air on the second. Higher speeds affect all weight vehicles equally of the same shape. You could make the same car out of solid lead or gold and it would behave no differently to air drag.
That's why wind turbines make lots more power at higher wind speeds than at lower wind speeds. The force is not linear.
The momentum achieved by gaining speed can be partly recovered by regenerative braking (but only in the correctly designed electric car, not a gasoline car) returning 5% to 15% of the braking energy back to storage. This has no weight relationship, but dies have a fuel-consumption relationship.
Electric motors are 90% to 95% efficient. Carnot (combustion engines) have a max efficiency around 35% only at the design ideal RPMs. Your energy easily takes you three times farther using electric drive. Equal weight, equal shape cars get these advantages equally. A lighter car with smaller engines will fight wind drag more than a heavier car with greater power, and the efficiency of the lightweight is lost at higher speeds -- none of the lightweight cars ever made had good highway cruising characteristics.
So many false premises end in false promises. RMI has never proven they can do what they claim. No prototypes have ever demonstrated a car backing up the claims. 1991 to 2007 is SIXTEEN YEARS -- just exactly how long does it take for fiberglass to cure?
The yakkity-yak from persistent failures like RMI distracts from paying attention to what is REAL. There are 100 mpg vehicles on the road today. There are 31 entries to the X-Prize competition and RMI is not one of them. There's a reason why that it. Figure it out.

Right, quote the SOLID-OXIDE FUEL CELL Propaganda website, Ulf Bossel the most-quoted far-right crazies-wing fossil-fool shill guy. That's what passes for intelligent discussion nowadays. Have you bowed down in prayer five times today facing the holy oil wells of Mecca?

Today is the first day of the Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo - a few updates {Autoblog Green}
Feb 10th 2007 12:49AM Hydrogen production in the clean alternatives means that the Hydrogen itself comes from clean energy and the energy required to make the parts for the clean energy also come from clean energy.
Any time somebody gets off the track talking about biomass or coal, of natural gas, or oil reforming, gently but firmly put them back on track by telling them that every fuel with carbon in it is excluded from the discussion. The carbon solutions go into The Dirty Temporary Measures or The Dirty Temporary Measures With Carbon Sequestration, which also includes "carbon-neutral" suggestions such as ethanol or biodiesel.
Nuclear power is also off the table until confirmed dependable waste neutralizations measures exist which completely and effectively eliminate the biohazard properties in the wastes.
NOTHING WHICH BURDENS
FUTURE GENERATIONS
WITH CLEAN-UP BILLS
IS PART OF THE
HYDROGEN ECONOMY.
That leaves for consideration:
* Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power
* Solar Thermal Energy
* Wind Electric Generation
* Hydroelectric Generation
* Geothermal Electric
* Direct Solar Catalysis
* Biological Catalysis>
* Tidal Power
Since H2-PV will be universal within 41 years (2048) providing 100% of the world's energy needs, if not as soon as 10 years (2017), it deserves and receives the most explanation. The others are backups, of which H2-WIND could also provide 100% of global requirements, although H2-PV-WIND is the fastest route.

Jan 23rd 2007 6:23PM Here's the deal: any time you can buy electricity at steep retail prices (12 cents/kWh here in California) and electrolyze plain water and get $24 worth of BULK RATE WHOLESALE VALUE of Oxygen, you are doing pretty good. That's what you get, 8 kilograms of O2 every time you electrolyze 9 kg of H2O. Ohhh, by the way, you also get a FREE kilogram of Hydrogen too that has the power of a gallon of gasoline.
The O2 can be catalyzed back with an equal amount to the original water to produce H2O2. Don't power your cars with THAT!!! The land speed for 2-wheel vehicle is 365 mph powered with H2O2, hydrogen-peroxide. You'll get nothing but speeding tickets all day long! Use the H2 instead, and skip the tickets.
Both H2 + H2O2 are rocket fuels. You sissypants girlymen are never going into space unless you get over your yellowbelly fear of them. Stop lying to yourself -- the economics are up top $24 back on $6 investment, so money is not the issue, is it? Fear does terrible things to guys, who will lie their heads off to deny that fear is driving them.
Let's get it straight. All the technical problems of the hydrogen economy were solved by 20 years ago, and I can walk you through all the expired patents with their filing dates. Nothing technical is stopping an ECONOMIC MIRACLE from happening. What is more powerful than greed? Fear is. You pussies are quaking in your shoes, wishing some hair would finally sprout on your testosterone-starved chests.
If anybody ever told the truth your white knuckles and ashen pale faces would give you away, not to mention your fainting whenever the word HYDROGEN was spoken.
You'd rather face a cat-5 hurricane from Global Warming than learn to get over you hydro-phobia.
Ohh, and another thing, you need to go change your underpants now, because I used the dreadful H* word.
