New study shows U.S. automakers losing money on every car {Autoblog}

Jan 18th 2007 11:45PM Interesting to see the replies in here. We got one person saying they will support "American-made" products as much as possible, which is fine, their decision, I just wish the American companies cared as much about American consumers and workers as much.

I do not believe that buying American keeps jobs in America, it merely keeps the top 3% rich because they eventually layoff the blue collar workers anyway and move production offshore - WHY? LOWER COSTS

From a capitalist's point of view the equation is this:

USA GUY pays $20k for USA-made car - I lose $2k
USA GUY will pay $20k for Mexico-made car if ALL cars are made in Mexico - I make $4k

DUH...I am moving production to Mexico and you can't do anything but buy the cars because ultimately your NEW argument will be that ATLEAST it is an American company and it pays taxes here, etc.

If I am going to line someone's pockets, at least I wil get a quality product at a good price. it may be American, most likely it won't be.

Jan 18th 2007 10:59PM When you lose $6 billion in 2006, you've gotta do ANYTHING to try and sell your bread and butter - in this case TRUCKS. Too bad the truck boom is over and consumers have moed on to other types of vehicles. Let's just hope the poor blokes who do buy a Ford truck don't end up blowing a spark plug through the engine:

Last tip: Don't buy Ford stock anytime soon...Toyota is a much smarter company

Jan 18th 2007 10:39PM Personally I don't see this being the best bet. The Japanese have too great a lead on the American companies and I am sure that a better "plug-in" electric vehicle will arrive from a company like Toyota that actually knows how to make a profit selling cars. I could actually care less if GM or Ford are around in another 10 years - keep bleeding money from your products and giving Americans low fuel economy vehicles while the rest of the World wises up.
