Dec 28th 2006 9:11AM What everyone forgets (and the reason the EV1s were all crushed, as were Honda's initial efforts at an EV) is that car companies do not make their money from selling you a car. That's peanuts. The money is in the repairs after the fact, and with EVs, the money just isn't there! The EV1 needed a brush replacement on the motor every 100,000 miles, and it took all of 30 minutes. Would you pay $1,000 for that? Didn't think so. Ok, it needs brake jobs. Even at $1,000 each (yeah, I know, they only need to cost about 1/3 of that or less), it's still not much money, and they can't stay afloat on so little.
Trust me, until another equally maintenance-intensive alternative comes along, we're stuck with the ICE. Those CEOs have to make their millions...
