Spy Shots: Saab 9-3x in the works {Autoblog}
Jul 16th 2008 11:11AM Atomicbri: You make me want to cry. I'm an old SAAB fan from way back, but the truth hurts. SAAB needs an owner that understands them. However, I do hope the 9-3X is successful. SAABs of yore were great in the snow, in part due to their generous road clearances. At least the 9-3X has that, unlike the Turbo-X.
Beauty & Beast: Autodelta J4 2.2 C supercharged Alfa 159 {Autoblog}
Jun 25th 2008 7:12PM Beautiful car. Proves that Saab can still make a great platform too. They did the majority of the platform design on the 159, and there should have been a new 9-5 on it by now if the plug hadn't been pulled. I really wish Fiat had bought Saab instead of GM.

Trollhattan Saab exits the automotive blogosphere {Autoblog}
Jun 6th 2008 11:35AM I don't think there is, or ever has been, a blog for any other marque as informative and emotional, with such a loyal following, as trollhattansaab. Many employers will now rejoice that their employees are not spending the day checking in on Swade's blog.
Fortunately, for those of us addicted to his blog, he'll be back someday, better than ever.

Charge! GM gives update on Volt development, describes interior {Autoblog}
Apr 4th 2008 8:08AM It's "udder", not "utter". And aren't they decreasing battery testing from 10 years to 2, not increasing?

Feb 1st 2008 11:15AM What is it with Wisconsin, it must be good for cars! Peter Gilbert of Wisconsin recently got a new Saab for free after driving his classic 900 for a million miles:

NHTSA increases roof rigidity requirements {Autoblog}
Jan 27th 2008 8:51AM Forgot to mention, the quote is for a Saab 9-3 convertible. So, no, it's not the death of convertibles either.
NHTSA increases roof rigidity requirements {Autoblog}
Jan 27th 2008 8:48AM You whiners about government safety regs make me sick. It doesn't require bigger pillars to make a roof rollover safe, and it doesn't add significant weight. Here's a quote from a prior Autoblog article for you:
"Reinforced A-pillars and windshield header rail able to withstand loading 2.2 times greater than weight of the car."
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/11/sweden-attacks-saab-unveils-new-9-3-sedan-sportcombi-and-conve/
And, that's just the windshield pillars. Add in the pop-up rollover bars and it easily exceeds the govt regs. All it takes is good engineering. For added measure, it's moose proof.
And I laugh at you Volvo guys that think Volvos have strong roofs. My son's old 75 Saab 99 went airborne and landed on the driver's A pillar --- not even a broken window. You want a safe car, get the real Swedish safety car.
2007 big year for Pontiac Aztek: 25 sold {Autoblog}
Jan 18th 2008 8:37AM Richard, AWD was always an option on the Aztek. Our 2001 is AWD.
Also, I don't know why it's compared so often to the Honda Element, except for looks. The Aztek is so much larger, you could probably fit an Element in the Aztek. Our alpacas ride in back standing up. I put a hitch on ours and hauled four vintage Saabs home on a flatbed trailer on round trips up to 1,200 miles. No element could do that.
But I sure hop those 25 buyers get the extended warranty. Oh, how I regret not getting that. Funny thing is though, it's mostly the Japanese components that fail, like the Mitsubishi air conditioning.
