Pressure building on EPA chief to quit, vehicle CO2 emissions issue play a role {Autoblog Green}

Jun 20th 2008 3:37AM It's about time this idiot gets his walking papers! It time to stop burying our heads in the sand and face the fact that the auto industry must change. If the American car companies and legislators try to keep the status quo we will lose in the end and we we will not have an American car company. They will lose to all the other companies that will and do offer better fuel mileage. Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency!!!!!!

Volkswagen prices 2009 Jetta TDI, sedan starts at $21,990 {Autoblog Green}

Jun 19th 2008 2:12AM I just hauled 2 cords of firewood ( 2/3 cord each trip on a trailer) out of the forest in my 2000 Beetle TDI. I was passing people on the highway and not trying to go for fuel mileage because I was trying to make three trips that day one hour each way and I still got 40 mpg! Try even hauling anything of a load in a Prius and still get 40 mpg. That little diesel excellerates with authority even with a 1500lbs loaded trailer up hill. I was going 70 - 80 mph when I could. And no I am not exagerating I check my fuel mileage every tank.

VW is OK with EU CO2 targets, proposes nuclear power {Autoblog Green}

Jun 18th 2008 12:26AM The best way to distribute hydrogen is by local production and a HUGE investment in wind power. Every hydrogen station will just have power lines going to them while they produce hydrogen 24/7. By investing in wind we will have a clean source of energy and a bunch of new jobs producing and installing and maintaining them. I have been trying to get the message out that if the oil companies are going to be taxed for the windfall profits then put that straight into wind generators that the oil companies own. It is a win win situation because we get the extra electricity we need for the future of electric cars and the oil companies still make profits for their share holders and the money will not get wasted in research and development on non proven technologies.

Carbon fiber costs may soon be slashed {Autoblog Green}

May 20th 2008 4:23PM #3 beat me to the subject. Can carbon fiber be recycled? If it can is it really worth it?

New York Times samples the 53mpg Honda Accord diesel {Autoblog Green}

May 20th 2008 3:40AM At current prices for diesel and gas I still save $98 a month with my TDI Beetle. I go 178 miles more per tank with my TDI compared to the gas Beetle.
That is calculated at $3.50 a gallon for gas and $4.20 for diesel. So yes the Honda diesel will be very relevant when it comes.

More information on GM's new light duty diesel V-8 {Autoblog Green}

May 7th 2008 3:24AM I totally agree with #5 rob. That will have the biggest impact on reducing the amount of fuel the US uses. But, you will need to talk to the people in charge of refining diesel fuel to increase the size of their diesel production or we will see diesel go up in price. I think it's a conspiracy to discourage diesel vehicles in the US.

Yamaha adds scooter fuel mileage estimates to its website {Autoblog Green}

Apr 29th 2008 5:25PM I had a 1983 Kawasaki GPZ305 that got 80 mpg consistantly. The worst I got was 59 mpg in which I had driven every day doing over 110 mph. Gas was .89 cents a gallon... sorry I was day dreaming of the good ole days.

Softening demand hits GM full-size truck production {Autoblog Green}

Apr 29th 2008 5:17PM If you are in the market for a large vehicle like this please take this advice seriously: If leasing, do not try for the lowest payment possible and if you purchase and or lease put the largest amount of money down as possible. Here is why. I worked in auto sales and every truck or SUV that people tried to unload for a more efficient car ALL had the same problem, the value plummeted over the time of the the lease or loan and they were upside down by up to $20,000. They ALL went for the small payment and they ALL owed much more than the than the projected value when it was time to trade it in or turn it in from the lease. And remember you should expect to lose all the money you put down and more! Better yet, if you are not a rancher, farmer or contractor who needs one DON'T BUY ONE ! If you do don't ever let me hear you complain about gas prices!!! It was your choice to pay the price of owning those vehicles.

It's Friday: Dean Kamen unveils dung-powered water and electricity generator {Autoblog Green}

Apr 25th 2008 11:40PM Now if someone can invent a system to produce power or gas for cooking and heating from a septic tank you will really have something. There a a lot more septic systems than you think. I would be a potential customer. I don't want to hear what is happening in India or South America we need it here in the U.S.

BMW confirms fall launch for U.S. diesels, racing to beat Mercedes {Autoblog Green}

Apr 21st 2008 11:45PM Don't forget that is about reducing consumption. Bio-diesel cost more than regular diesel and I still buy it over dino diesel. And with the performance gains with the diesel, in torque, the diesel is much more fun to drive than the gas version. BMW drivers expect a quality built car with performance to boot and you will most likely put premium in the gas cars and cost of fuel is a minor issue when you can already afford a BMW.
