GM Launches two new turbocharged engines {Autoblog Green}

May 16th 2008 8:14AM re:"and use eight percent less fuel than a comparable output 1.8L "

If it requires premium fuel, which costs 5% more than regular, not much of a gain overall. 8% doesn't seem like much of an increase for the turbo.

May 14th 2008 7:52PM How anyone can think this is even midly interesting after listening to the jet turbine Porsche 928 is beyond me.

May 9th 2008 7:21AM " emissions-free family hauler"

NO NO NO! Electric cars certainly generate fewer emissions, but they are only emissions-free if they are charged by electricity from solar, wind, or hydro-electric sources, which are rare in the US. Low emission and remote emission (emission is at the power generating plant, not at the car) yes, but NOT emission free.

Tankonempty.com: How far past the slash can you go? {Autoblog}

May 7th 2008 9:48PM I was going to say the same thing, but will just add "What he said" to this post. Driving down to E is a terrible, expensive idea. Past E is just dumb.

Is tectonic activity the real source of oil? Should we be using it? {Autoblog Green}

Apr 21st 2008 10:23PM "This theory is widely regarded in the scientific community as pseudoscience"

Same was said once for lots of things that pass for proven science now. If there's one thing we should learn from looking at the history of "science", it's that the road from the past is littered with scientists who were absolutely sure they had it all figured out. And were toatlly wrong. Why should it be any different now?

I have a perpetual motion machine in my basement that I'm not using anymore since I fuel my cars with Rice Krispies. I wonder if Stan would be interested in buying it...

Harvard professor predicts railroads will return to prominence in the U.S. {Autoblog Green}

Apr 14th 2008 7:25AM Note that this guy is a "Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences... School of Design" , not in economics. The idea that investors are buying land for a rail boom predicted to take place 42 years from now (when most of these so-called investors will be dead!) is preposterous. There are certainly more logical reasons to buy this land.

As for things that Europe has that help rail travel's popularity, don't forget to leave out state-owned monopolies on rail and gas taxes of about $5 per gallon. My wife and I lived in Europe for six years, and trvel for Two or three people was almost always cheaper using a car than a train, even paying $6-7 a gallon for gas. European train travel is clean, fairly efficient, and comfortable, but not cheap.

Hatchback, wagon and diesel versions of new Mazda6 launched in Europe {Autoblog Green}

Feb 19th 2008 10:26AM ARRGH! The torment, the wait, the longing. The diesel wagon with stick shift. Forbidden fruit for how long? Perhaps there really are only three or four of us in all of the US that want one of these? Is it possible? I cannot believe this to be true. My preference would be the Acura TSX (Accord) Trouring, but would buy Mazda6, Volvo, Subie, even Chevy or Ford. Who wants my money? NOBODY!

AMEN!
