May 31st 2008 12:56PM Great success, looks excellent!
Don't know about the rims and grille though... They turn the interior from 'classy' to 'pimp'. That's not a good thing.
Reader Question: Why don't electric motors short out in the rain? {Autoblog Green}
Mar 26th 2008 1:48AM First I'd like to introduce myself as a student at an engineering school currently developing a hybrid powertrain/electric drive (think diesel-electric trains) Mini Formula for the SAE Formula Hybrid competition this May.
Murray; good points. If the impedance of a motor were that of water, it simply wouldn't run. Obviously due to extenuating circumstances, don't dunk a teenie DC servo into a cup and expect proof, however.
The greatest complications (the one's which add 1,000's of man-hours) to designing a hybrid drivetrain are these difficulties precisely. In fact, when all is said and done, oftentimes solving one issue will solve another. To cite a recent example of my own: The successful completion of a circuit which re-routs massive regenerative braking energy ended up being a great battery surge protector. The thing likely saved 13 standard car batt's.
In essence, expect that we engineers have all your bases covered. The only problems I can expect are manufacturing faults or poor materials choice (but doesn't that seem to be the problem with all cars today? hmmm...).

Jan 6th 2008 12:13PM That is usb... it has four longitudinal contacts as always, albeit very wide contacts. I doubt a production model would sport that style, but rather fall back to the standard connector to save materials costs. I'm curious too how the plug unfurls. And the screen is a MUST - I cannot stand the screenless ipod shuffles for that very reason.
I'm looking for more pictures on this beauty!

Aug 16th 2007 8:55AM It is. It's the same mechanical structure, though obviously labeled differently. Look at the layout and proportions, the two fwd and back keys above the left and right arrows, and placement of the super and menu keys.
Keep in mind that Lenovo doesn't design or manufacture that keyboard, they outsource the work to smaller companies; so it's not uncommon to have two EOL computer manufacturers with similar parts.
Miles XS 500: the $30000 all-electric sedan? {Engadget}
Aug 16th 2007 8:45AM I just can't get excited about this if I try. There are too many hurdles to overcome before getting an all electric car out into production. Battery shipment and safety requirements, Chinese manufacturing (reliability), crash tests and lead paint (seems to be a problem over there, hehe), etc etc etc.
I just watched a two hour presentation by Martin Eberhard about the startup of his Tesla Motors. The trials and tribulation he and his co-workers had to overcome just to keep the project above water are astounding. Though I don't have much hope for Miles' car, I surely wouldn't be disapointed if he succeeds. His would be another nameplate to eventually replace the more stubborn petrol manufacturers...

Aug 14th 2007 1:15PM That's the keyboard from my Lenovo T60p. As evident by the fact that I know it by sight scrolling through a bunch of blogs, yes it is a very good thing. IMHO, the best by far in the laptop business. I won't get my hopes up (it's only a grand), but who knows it may be well manufactured and turn out to be a steal.
Tesla battery pack passes UN safety test for delivery in passenger cars {Autoblog Green}
Aug 10th 2007 11:04PM Tesla has set itself up in the -perfect- position between the electronics, automotive and emerging electric vehicles markets. With their 'catalyst' position between electronics and automotives, we'll be seeing their innovation being sold off to other automotive companies, money (incentive!!!) going to battery manufacturers to produce lighter cheaper more efficient batteries, to be later put into future models being pumped out by Tesla using the money earned by selling technologies.
Tesla is the new player in a poker match of oil and automotive champions, and they've got the royal flush. I can only hope (prey) that the support of big electronics manufacturers and righteous politicians will give them the courage to keep on their game face and take it all from the pool.
Maybe when this is all said and done, Musk will grant us the month-long "year-end" like Ford did with the weekly planner. Maybe I'm just dreaming :)...
