Diesels purring quietly, plotting their upcoming expansion in the American market {Autoblog Green}

May 28th 2007 8:58AM BMW made the official announcement that in 2008 the 3 liter inline 6 cyl. turbodiesel will be available "across their model lineup." They hint that it will be the twin-turbo 286HP/420ft-lb torque mill. I am eagerly awaiting a 3-series coupe with this engine. 0-60 in around 6 seconds, 40MPG on the highway. Now we're talkin'! What's not to love?

Report: Diesels will outsell hybrids in the U.S. by 2012 {Autoblog}

May 26th 2007 12:20AM 2008 the floodgates will open for diesel when BMW, Audi, and VW (again). In particular I'm waiting for the BMW 335d. This beast adds less than 100lbs to the 335i but puts out over 400 foot pounds of torque. That on top of 286HP and a very fast shifting automatic and I'll be first in line!

Meanwhile I have a loaded camry hybrid, gets 35MPG even when I don't care. But interior sucks compare to german cars and the logic behind when the electric-only mode comes on is maddeningly unpredictable. Makes for a mildly frustrating if not green ride.

Audi ready to milk A5 line with multiple versions {Autoblog}

Apr 25th 2007 9:10PM Just bring the 3.0 TDI diesel engine to Audi's complete lineup. In the A3, A4, A5, A6. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND AUDI WE WANT DIESELS HERE? CLEAN POWERFUL NEW GENERATION EUROPEAN DIESELS FOR THE AMERICAN MARKET!!!! HELLO AUDI!!!!! Thanks for the thought by sticking the 3.0TDI in the Q7, but... well... um.... I'll think about a 5000 pound SUV when the next blue moon rises.

Mercedes-Benz E320 wins World Green Car award {Autoblog Green}

Apr 6th 2007 2:19PM It's nice to know that a C-class benz will be available soon with an engine like this, or even more efficient in the case of the C220 CDI Bluetec (beating Euro VI emission standards even!!!).

I just shelled out almost $32K (before tax rebate) for a loaded Camry hybrid; had to completely change my driving style to get 39MPG (mostly highway). A couple weeks ago I gave up the effort, now I'm down to a bit over 35MPG average. Still not bad ;)

But the C-class C220 CDI should get will into the 40s without any such effort - plus if any of y'all have driven a $30-$40K German car there's nothing like it from Japan in that price range....IMO

Mercedes wants 10% of their US sales to be diesels by 2010 {Autoblog Green}

Mar 29th 2007 7:24PM We have plenty of diesel stations here in Florida. Whichever German automaker has the first diesel sedan/coupe (i.e. Audi A4 or C-class benz) under $40K, will have my money. Can't wait to trade in the Camry Hybrid - but it will do for now. You hear me Audi? You hear me Daimler Chrysler? BMW please separate Nav from the i-Drive and I'd consider a diesel 3-series......

Audi releases official info on A5 / S5 with NEW PICS! {Autoblog}

Feb 23rd 2007 11:27PM No diesel in the US? Even after creating the new website http://www.audiusdiesel.com/???? Audi, pull your head out of your a$$!

States to drop gas taxes? {Autoblog}

May 13th 2006 8:55AM Some states levy a fixed amount per gallon of fuel. Other states, including New York, levy a percentage based on the going price of fuel. The end result is the states such as New York currently seeing windfalls because of how the math works out.

Agree that people need to get more fuel efficient cars, and keeping the prices high would prompt people to pull their heads out of their a$$ the next time they buy a new or replacement car.

OTOH, the method of levying gas taxes should be the same everywhere.
