BMW officially announces the BMW Hydrogen 7 {Autoblog Green}
Sep 13th 2006 10:24AM Has anyone considered a full life-cycle analysis of a) the Hydrogen 7 car and b) the requisite infrastructure (including electrolysis and distribution systems) to deliver hydrogen gas? Or is this just the magic elixir de jour?
Hydrogen Economy, corn-to-biodiesel, gasoline, coal, nuclear, suburban development: these all seem like just different positions taken while we continue to rape our planet to support a completely unsustainable lifestyle which we (the US citizenry) have been told is "not negotiable" (GHW Bush 1992, and Dick Cheney 2001). What a crock that cultural meme is, and take a look where it's brought us: Does anyone seriously think humanity can survive living this way for another 100 years? Growing crops to catalyze into fuel we burn to get ourselves and two-tons of metal and plastic somewhere else, all the while depleting topsoil (non-renewable on non-geologic timescales), drawing down life-giving aquifers (non-renewable on non-geologic timescales), and adding a carbon load to the atmosphere precipitating climatic changes we cannot predict, let alone control.
We must power down lest we continue to serve as hosts for and unconciously transmit the cultural memes of those who see humans as vectors for their persistence. The alternative is to be forever their slaves.
There is no single right way to live, despite what our "leaders" and the forces of Globalization try to tell us!
