2007 Corvette Z06 goes Atomic and gets higher price {Autoblog}

Sep 7th 2006 10:08AM That's only a 6.6% price increase. Sounds like an adjustment for inflation almost.

For the "average" man there's the base 'vette. (actually the average man probably gets a 10-15 year old 'vette...)

There's also a LOT more to the Z06 than the extra HP. If you only want a 1/4 mile time, forget the 'vette entirely and drop an LS7 into a Vega. But the 'vette does corners, too.

Mercedes E320 Bluetec arrives as 45-State Vehicle {Autoblog Green}

Sep 7th 2006 9:49AM +1 on that. Really blows away the myth that we can't get Euro diesel cars because of our fuel. Even with the new ULSD that the US is going to, only a few European diesels will be coming over.

The 131 mpg Caterham Seven {Autoblog Green}

Sep 7th 2006 9:43AM As much as I'm sure they'd like to, oil companies have nothing to do wih the current MPG of cars. Blame the consumers. Why did they stop selling the Metro et al? Not enough money in it. People are buying SUV's that cost several times what a Metro does while not costing the companies much more to produce. Hmmm... Higher profit vehicles that sell = Metro takes the axe. Now, if the consumer were willing to pay $20K for a Metro (with no mre hp or luxury, mind you) then I'm sure they'd be rolling off the line today. Also blame people for insisting on more and more hp each year.

Also, get real - diesels make far more pollution than gas engines. Take a look at how few diesels can pass US emissions regs compared to how many gas engines do. NOx emissions of a diesel are off the chart next to a gas engine. The better fuel economy of a diesel is mostly due to the fact that diesel has more BTU's per gallon than gas.
Diesel is still great (I own a '71 MB 220D) but not the answer to all problems. With DI gas engines and homogenous charge combustion coming, I wonder how the picture will look in a decade?
