Aug 11th 2008 7:53AM Everyone seems to miss the point that it is not what you pay for gas, but what it costs you per mile. I drive an all wheel drive Astro van bought at auction for 1800 bucks. It gets 16 mpg, but the total cost for transportation the last two years has been a total of 8k, if you cost out the van to now be worth $0, which is not true. A new Prius is 25k, if you can get one, and just the tax alone is 2k, or, if you think about it, that is 200 bucks more in just tax than I paid for the van! Yea, I'd like to get 40mpg, but not if I have to spend 25 thousand to get it.
