The Nintendo Wii weight loss plan {That's Fit}

Sep 19th 2007 5:12PM I'm tired of hearing "Use the Wii to lose weight!"

If you're significantly obese then standing for 2 hours waving your arms around with a 1/4 lb controller in your hands will help you lose weight, but for the rest of us that aren't 300+ lbs and 5'10" (actually, should anyone be 300+, regardless of height?) then it's not gonna do a whole lot.

Sorry to burst all those bubbles out there. Now, if they came up with controllers that you strapped to your feet too then, maybe, with the right jumping & kicking & lunging & running in place game, everyone could lose weight. But the way it's setup now all you move is your arms.

(yes, i know, some games say "hold the controller in front of you and jump up and down!" but no one ever does that, they just move the controller up and down and it works the same)

oh, and I did own a Wii for a month and never lost a pound so i do know what i'm talking about.

Medical tourism is soaring {That's Fit}

Jul 7th 2007 12:02PM I'm an insurance agent and I can't even find reasonable health insurance. I'm healthy in my 20s and last place i found charged nearly $100/mo and I found out later all they really covered was emergencies with a 2 grand co-pay, I still got the $70 doctor visit bill and they only covered $50 of a $350 prescription.

Medical insurance in the US is crazy. News reports are saying that the movie "Sicko" is actually pretty factual, that the numbers he quoted were accurate.

Think i'll just move to canada before I have children, I wouldn't want my children to grow up without insurance. I was lucky my father was in the military and I was covered as a child.

"Men won't like you if you're fat, so eat our light yogurt" {That's Fit}

Jun 22nd 2007 9:01PM i don't think the girl in the american beauty picture looks that bad.

Guess I'm weird because I like the ads. What's so different about these from late night infomercials?? "I lost 80 lbs and now my husband loves me more!" and other crap like that.

Wonder how long we're gonna see the "guy" version? Fat bruce willis? Fat terminator? Fat Gladiator? Fat Braveheart? ... lol that braveheart one would be hilarious, i can just imagine a fat guy in a kilt ;)

The Great American Sex Diet {That's Fit}

Jun 18th 2007 11:36AM i tried this diet... doesn't work

The most common ailments that men ignore (but shouldn't) {That's Fit}

Jun 16th 2007 1:51PM "a new University of Pittsburgh physical activity study shows having a baby can cause men to workout almost 4.5 fewer hours per week. Women's activity levels only fell by 1.3 hours per week...men may have experienced a greater drop because they were initially more active than women. Whatever the reason, men need to be more prepared for how a child will change their lives and, potentially, their waist lines."

damn that's pretty scary.

Does sleeping in on Saturdays mean worse grades for your kids? {That's Fit}

Jun 16th 2007 9:01AM kids sleeping in on saturdays?? getting up early on saturday to watch cartoons are the best thing! Heck why do you think i'm up this early on a saturday ;)

Vets see inadequate mental health care {That's Fit}

May 30th 2007 11:14AM not much you can do, guys don't like to talk about mental problems, it's a sign of weakness. This is less a military issue and more a cultural issue.

i've been out for nearly 3 years and i still have nightmares, in fact I had a nightmare last night. And you don't have to kill someone to have nightmares, the military is incredibly stressful and it can affect you for a long time. You just deal with it.

Also they like to kick you out if it's suspected that you have mental problems, especially if you're suicidal. Who wants a suicidal solider strapped with grenades on their platoon? A lot of guys got kicked out of basic just for mentioning the word "suicide"... after seeing a counselor and they determined they could be suicidal. Drill sergeants gave them a really hard time though, saying things like "Private (whatever) has sand in his (female anatomy) so he'll be missing training today" etc. so they got to sit all day (sitting was a huge privilege!) while everyone else busted their ass.

Talking about any mental anything was NOT encouraged.

You're going to die. Oh wait, just kidding {That's Fit}

May 7th 2007 1:37PM reminds me of when doctors told my then near-50 parents they could no longer have children due to their age and various medical problems. My mom had another child when I was well into my 20s. My parents were obviously upset but chose not to terminate because it was against their beliefs and chose not to sue the doctors because they didn't want her to know she was an accident, but they're missing out on their much-needed retirement and peace and quiet.

I think doctors should be held liable for huge mistakes like this. If the opposite happened, if a person had cancer and they "missed" it during a test and didn't find it until it was too late the doctor would be sued too. Besides, doctors have insurance to protect them against errors like this.

World walking 10% faster {That's Fit}

May 4th 2007 3:22PM "moving too fast can lead to stress, anxiety, etc "

WHAT?!?! Did I just read that a weblog called "ThatsFit" said that walking fast can lead to stress and anxiety??

What's next, "running marathons lead to water loss, possible death"?

400-pound man runs Boston Marathon...and finishes! {That's Fit}

Apr 27th 2007 10:25PM Even if this story isn't BS (someone pointed out he's not listed as a runner at the official Boston Marathon website) 26.2 miles in 9:40 is 2.7 miles per hour. That's a slow walk folks. If you can walk slowly for 10 hours then... well, I don't know.

He trained to slowly walk?? What kind of training do you do to walk 2.7 mph?!? Walk to the fridge and grab a beer?!
