VIDEO: Another Pontiac G8 ad that goes after our childhood {Autoblog}
May 16th 2008 11:57PM Can GM cook up one with good mileage.
Take the 94mm bore of the 3.6 V6, use the short stroke crankshaft of the 2.8 V6, 74.8mm, for an oversquare circa 250 hp, 225ft-lb 3.1 V6.
GM has that 6L45 in inventory, and how about that 3.7 axle ratio from the GXP?
5.4L V8 power ratings revealed for 2009 Ford F-150 {Autoblog}
May 16th 2008 6:59PM 8 SPEED AUTOMATIC.
The gas prices aren't coming back down, the dollar has been devalued. [the middle class is being systematically eliminated]
320hp, 390ft-lbs is plenty of power. If those numbers are correct, the updated 5.4 V8 has proportionally greater torque than any other 1/2 ton pickup V8 engine.
72 ft-lbs / liter
Dodge & Toyota 5.7's 71 ft-lbs / liter
Nissan 69
GM 5.3 63
Now it is GM's turn to put VCT on the 5.3 V8 (say 325hp, 350ft-lbs)
or it is time for Toyota to drop the 4.0 V6 & 4.7 for a supercharged/intercooled 2gr-fe 331hp, 301ft-lbs [preempt Ford's Ecoboost 3.5]
EPA looking for your thoughts on Texas' request to halve ethanol mandate {Autoblog Green}
May 16th 2008 6:49PM Get rid of the 10% ethanol.
It is such a waste.
I wouldn't be against E10 if it actually did something for me.
Was the mid-grade AKI rating raised from 89 to 90? No.
Is my mileage reduced 3% because of reduced energy content, Yes.
Is there a huge kick back to big oil & big agri, you betcha
GM Launches two new turbocharged engines {Autoblog Green}
May 16th 2008 6:44PM Usually there is always a 10 point separation between RON & MON, so you deduct 5 points from the RON to get the (R+M over 2)
http://media.gm.com/eur/cad/en/download/td/td_cts08_en.pdf
So, since California has such terrible gas, the automakers can not count on mid-grade being 95RON-90AKI, they just say 'screw it', use 91 or better.
If the US has national regulations for 87,90,93 AKI gasoline, then mileage could start to improve.

The 173hp Saab takes 95RON

May 16th 2008 5:48PM I think Ford is fibbing just a bit on the power numbers.
Jag S-type 3.0 235hp@6800, 216ft-lbs@3000
and that has a dual exhaust & higher compression ratio.

GM Launches two new turbocharged engines {Autoblog Green}
May 16th 2008 11:38AM #2 & #3, I hope you guys are coming from the American perspective, because most quality engines are 95RON fueled.
So the lower output turbo 1.4 will probably still be a 95RON fuel engine, and the higher output version will probably be a 98RON fuel version. (just like VW twincharger 1.4)
Look at what GM says for the Corvette, 95RON minimum for the LS3, 98RON for the LS7

May 15th 2008 7:44PM Yeah, 600+hp & ZF 8 speed automatic.
It would be nice to cruise at 180mph at 4000rpm in 8th gear. (well getting 6mpg wouldn't be so nice)

Over 38mpg & over 36mph overall average.
(they don't say how high the tire pressure was, or what the moving average was)
The 7 speed automatic should help for mileage/performance.
