Lexus forced, again, to remove deceptively green ad in UK {Autoblog Green}

Sep 27th 2008 1:08PM If truth in advertising were a prerequisite in the US, all political ads would be banned.

What color would you like your 2011 Chevy Volt? {Autoblog}

Sep 9th 2008 2:13PM This is the third time today that a blog has referred to the Volt as "aerodynamic." Exactly what aspect of it is aerodynamic? To me, it looks like any other contemporary three-box design. Might as well start calling every sedan out there "aerodynamic." Or are bloggers just plagiarizing each other?

GM: "human error" behind leak of 2011 Chevy Volt pics {Autoblog}

Sep 9th 2008 10:52AM I thought the timing was very suspicious as well. Curious that on the eve of asking for bail-out money, a slue of production-ready looking static pictures are shown with prominent execs are "leaked." I'd be more convienced if test videos of running mules were released.

Carsumer Advocacy: 20-year-old tries to bilk shop out of $16k job {Autoblog}

Aug 14th 2008 3:20PM Ironic how the shop owners are being criticized for accepting "a kid's word" at face value, yet the commenters here have totally accepted the facts of this story at face value. You only have to read 2 paragraphs into the original thread to realize that this 16-year old kid is actually a 20 year old man. How "journalists" screw up a detail like that is beyond me. It certainly adds another level of sensationalism to the story, doesn't it? Hmmm...

Honda to bring diesel V6 to U.S. {Autoblog}

Jul 11th 2007 3:02PM I still hate the smell of diesel fuel though. Just the fumes from tracking some of it onto my car's floormats makes me nauseous.

UAW Head Ron Gettelfinger on fuel mileage regulations {Autoblog Green}

Jul 7th 2007 1:56AM Has anyone actually seen the wording of this bill? I find it very hard to believe that the Axis of Automakers is supporting any legislation to raise mpg, while simultaneously being embroiled in an ongoing horsepower war. Call me a cynic, but there has got to be a giant loophole or subsidy or concession hidden in there somewhere. Maybe vehicles over 3000 lbs are exempt. Maybe safety regulations get rolled back. Trust me, there's something in it for the automakers. If it's not there yet, someone's just waiting to quietly sneak it in at the 13th hour.

And what is the UAW getting out of this bill? Free national healthcare? I know they've been wanting the entire nation to pick up the healthcare/pensions of their elite band of brothers. Maybe that's why they let the Big 2.5 off the hook so easily. Is it so hard to believe? We still have legislation from a century ago that grants pensions and benefits and exemptions to railway workers.

Bookmark my words, there is something rotten afoot.

Pickuptruck.com's top ten fuel efficient pickup trucks {Autoblog Green}

Jul 5th 2007 12:52AM Amazing. Not a single modern truck on the list. Yet, how much would these old trucks cost in today's dollars? Big 3 talk about adding $5k to each vehicle to make it more fuel efficient. Bull. Just another excuse to drag their feet and eventually jack the prices. They also once said adding seatbelts and airbags would be cost prohibitive.

Whaa? Big 3 wins big in Ward's Interior of the Year Awards {Autoblog}

Jun 8th 2007 6:32AM This is obviously not true. Old cars were included too. Both the Nissan Maxima and Quest date back to 2004.

Ghosn seeking partnership with US automaker again {Autoblog}

Jun 5th 2007 9:48PM If Nissan is simply looking for extra capacity, I actually think Chrysler would be a perfect match. Cerberus will probably be looking to shed some extra capacity in the short term to boost profitability, while generating some quick capital at the same time. In fact, tapping Chrysler would be a smart move for anybody looking for extra capacity (Toyota, Mazda, and the Chinese come to mind).

Otherwise, if Nissan is just looking for a partner to take advantage of economies of scale, the obvious choice is Toyota.

Worse or Worser: Automakers consider new mpg standard to prevent Senate bill {Autoblog}

May 31st 2007 10:00PM I really don't understand why the manufacturers are so resistant. All they have to do is bring their overseas offerings to the US, and they would instantly meet the new CAFE goals. There is already plenty of consumer demand for those models anyway. They would just sell themselves. Or heck, just introduce a couple diesel options and call it a day. In fact, that would increase consumer options, not limit them.

CAFE is "corporate AVERAGE fuel economy." It doesn't mean every model they make has to achieve 35 mpg. It just means that if you want to sell a gas guzzler, make sure you also offer a fuel sipper to balance things out.
