Energy efficiency study finds Segways are 5-20 times more energy efficient than cars {Autoblog Green}

Future Classic: 1991-94 Nissan Sentra SE-R {Autoblog}
Apr 26th 2007 3:16PM I was fortunate to have two of these in my life. A 92 that ended life suddenly at 170K and a 94 that is still running around my home town 3 owners later. There were hands down the best cars I've ever owned, better than the 89 RX-7 (non-turbo) and the 55 chevy for reliability and utility and fun-to-drive. If I didn't have need for a 4 door I'd have one today. If this isn't a future classic in your mind, you've apparently never driven one on a nice twisty road.
Pickuptruck.com puts Bambi vs. Godzilla: Ram Mega Cab vs. SMART Fortwo {Autoblog Green}
Apr 25th 2007 10:13AM @woodman I think your friend has a gas truck not the diesel in the review. I've driven the diesel version of this truck several times with loaded trailers and never gotten below 18 mpg ... of course I drive conservatively.
But yes people driving one for their 30 mile commutes alone is rather silly. Some people can justify the truck with the work they do or the hobbies they have. I restore historic homes for example. But when you can pick up a cobalt/carolla/civic for less than $5k and get years of good commuting out of it, theres no reason not to have it and save your truck for when you really need it.
Freedom from Oil strikes again in New York {Autoblog Green}
Apr 6th 2007 9:06AM If every body had a tailpipe on their home, people would realize that cars aren't the biggest problem we face. Our homes are much dirtier and much less efficient, but sure let's all blame cars that are relatively clean and ignore the largest problem.
BioTown, USA's latest upgrades include biomass-to-electricity generator {Autoblog Green}
Mar 29th 2007 9:07AM I applaude the efforts, but they need to spend the money up front on conservation and efficiency of the users in the system, homes, etc. then they won't need to spend as much on alternative energy sources.

I think Owen is saying that talking is fine, but if it never results in action, it is a waste. I agree with him I know both Reps and Dems that talk a good game on what we should do about the environment, but at the end of the day live just like everyone else. I'll take a well informed doer over a talker any day.
I think this guy is a good example of the parties not representing the people. As a business owner he has a resposibility to his company and employees that might make him side with the GOP, but it doesn't mean he isn't worried about the environment. This is one of the problems of our two party system.
Nissan prices Sentra SE-R Spec V below $20k {Autoblog}
Mar 9th 2007 4:15PM I loved my 94 SE-R it was a great car, still is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, SE-R seems to just be a gimmick now. Sure it makes more power and has some bigger wheels, but the original had all the performance options standard. The limited slip should be standard if this is really an SE-R.
Critics take spotlight off Al Gore's green effort, shine it on his personal consumption {Autoblog Green}
Mar 1st 2007 9:07AM He can buy the renewable energy all he wants, but that energy was going into the grid either way. By him living in is apparently inefficient, look-at-me home, he's using up the renewable energy that others could be using. So in effect he's increasing the demand for energy, and we all know where most of that comes from. I applaud his efforts, but why he isn't already using geothermal heat pumps (ground sourced is more accurate) is shameful. Our homes are far bigger energy hogs than any hummer ever was. And for what is small change to him, he could be using up far less energy. PV panels won't do near as much as a geothermal system, but the panels have a higher, look-at-me factor.
LA Times says the Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid is really more chartreuse {Autoblog Green}
Oct 27th 2006 10:09AM I'll admit that the Toyota and Honda hybrid systems are more exciting than light hybrids, but a 20% improvement is significant, even if it doesn't meet all the requirements to be a trendy pick. The engineering reality is that GM could implement this strategy in 100% of it's vehicles before Honda and Toyota could with their systems, and do so with little price penalty. A 20% improvement in GMs fleet would have quite an impact. Clearly it isn't a miracle pill, and isn't a multi-decade solution, but it's a step in the right direction and shouldn't be ignored just because it doesn't plug-in or move under electric power only. Now if GM Performance would offer a kit to retrofit existing cars to light hybrids, that would be revolutionary and something the lower middle class could embrace.
The "A-spot": Not erotic, dangerous {Autoblog}
Aug 8th 2006 10:52AM All this talk of A-pillers makes me chuckle. As a 6'2" driver(with short legs), I'm yet to be in a car where the rearview mirror isn't at eye level, if you think an A-piller can hide a lot, try a mirror you constantly have to duck to look under.
