Greenpeace's SmiLE Project proved 70mpg was possible in 1995 {Autoblog Green}
Jul 6th 2008 3:58PM Basically they cut the weight by using aluminum and plastics, tweaked the aerodynamics, and replaced the engine with a 55 hp 2-cylinder turbocharged engine.
Saudi Arabia to begin pumping on Khurais oil field shortly {Autoblog Green}
Jun 30th 2008 7:30PM Also remember that BP's Thunderhorse platform in the Gulf is starting to pump. Also, apparently, Exxon has a 300,000 bpd project off Angola that is apparently suppose to come online soon.
Solar power heats up. Government freezes projects. {Autoblog Green}
Jun 30th 2008 3:47PM Sorry, a little off topic for the blog. Good story, but off topic. Considering the inaccurate report on the McCain story, you need to keep your noise to the grid stone to car stories.
John McCain doesn't know how much gas costs {Autoblog Green}

I recommend ABG publish a correction of this post.
ABG, You need to watch the review process guys, the quality of reporting is going down.
Ford content to fall behind on PHEVs {Autoblog Green}
Jun 29th 2008 8:28PM It's obvious Ford does not have the cash to make a bet on battery technology. They are just waiting on the sideline for a supplier to do the work for them.
Overall, I think the Escape Hybrid is one of the better platforms for a PHEV conversion. It would likely would be a nice companion for Firefly PbA batteries, if they can get the cycle life up a little. That would be one great sleeper comeback.
U.S. mayors call for oil sands boycott {Autoblog Green}
Jun 27th 2008 5:38PM I wonder if tar sand oil fueled any of the airplanes that got them there.
AutoblogGreen Q&A: Tesla Motors Chairman Elon Musk Pt. 3 - Lessons and WhiteStar hints {Autoblog Green}
Jun 25th 2008 10:38PM Well the Whitestar Pure-EV news directly contradicts Martin Eberhard on the matter.
Quite honestly, I'm aginst pure EVs right now. Most driving is under 60 miles and batteries are still very expensive. Until they come down in price, I'm for a Pareto's principle approach.
I would rather have a car with an 600 pound cheap ICE generator that I would rare use rather than 600 pounds of extra battery capacity that I would also rarely use.

Obama joins the anti-McCain battery prize league {Autoblog Green}
Jun 25th 2008 9:45AM Because we all know that X-Prize thing was a complete failure.
This has devolved into pure stupidity. McCain could invent cold fusion and Obama would attack him for it. Go figure. After Obama is the candidate that talks about more math and science education while at the same time promising budget cuts to Nasa. I guess that's known as the politics of hope.
Is John McCain's $300m battery prize a good idea? Pelosi chimes in {Autoblog Green}
Jun 24th 2008 12:15PM Wow, every idea that the person from the other party has is a bad one per Pelosi. Great way to talk about bringing people together.
