Jul 2nd 2008 2:30AM this car was driven by the VW chief Ferdinand Piech as his daily driver to work and back, he did it just to proof that it works. I drove it on the Autobahn in between hords of thousends of europen 42to truck which are 10 times larger than average US SUV and are driven by sleep lacking guys under hard time pressrue of delivery times..
Piech himself reached on a drive from Wolfsburg to Hamburg a average consuption in real world metropol traffic of 0.89l/100km or 264mpg US with a average speed of 72km/h (45mph) including stop and go traffic light traffic..
BTW the car is build after FIA race car safty regulations... including side impact and roll over standarts..
The problem in 2002 the cost for a fully carbon chassie for the 1L was 35,000Euro without any other parts... a producer is working hard to reduce the costs for the chassie to 5000Euro... looks like they were successfull..

Jul 1st 2008 3:21AM according to Autozeitung the new e92 M3 has the following specs that are known today..
most important the e92 M3 CSL has recived green light for production! Officle presentation is planed at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2009 with delivery start in Germany in early 2010.
technical specs..
same 4.0l V8 engine as in the M3 but with classic engine tuning like larger valves, improved intake and exhust side putting out 470PS over the 420PS of the standart M3.
suspension brake
completely reworked, hardcore race suspension, lowered wider track.
chassie
new front with carbon flaps and huge rear difusor to produce more downforce.
carbon roof and engine hood, CFK intereur, cardbord trunk (like in the old CSL), thinn glass rear window to reduce weight.. the M3 CSL with dual clutch tranny will be 100kg lighter as the standart M3.

Jul 1st 2008 3:07AM The M1 was never planed to be avaible as road car only the few homoligation models that needs to be build to race several race series, the long process of the M1 development with all the throwbacks like Lamborghini running bankrup was the reason that the M1 was to late ready, the race series BMW orginal planed to race had changed the engine rules and the M1 was out of the game... BMW was sitting there with a ready race car and no race series to drive it..so they founded the Pro Car series as a pre Formula 1 race series.. because there was no race series to race the M1 much more M1 were build as road going versions as orginaly planed..

Jun 30th 2008 11:04AM Volkswagen in Germany already said there will be no AWD or V6 Scirocco as they presented the Scirocco.
They perhaps plan a sportive FWD version powered by a 250-260PS 2.0 TFSI engine from the Audi S3.
AWD and V6 would completely ruin VW´s idea behind the Scrocco...
1. payable (in Europe were the 200hp Scirocco is cheaper as the GTI)
2. light (lot lighter as the GTI)
3. low emission (by using small displacment engine like the 1.4TSI)

Jun 24th 2008 8:40AM this is nothing new..the Ford focus is already sold with powershift tranny in Germany.. perhaps Autoblog authors should realize that Fords europen HQ is in Germany Cologne not in the UK.. if Ford offers something new in Europe it is always first time avaible in Germany, the powershift dual clutch is from Getrag like the one in the e90 and e92 M3..
Autobild already made a compare between powershift and DSG...
