A poor argument for coal liquefaction {Autoblog Green}
Sep 6th 2006 2:39PM CHECK YOUR NUMBERS
Montana has 120 billion tons (at least) of coal, not 2.4 billion as both you and Mr. Strong stated.
BTW, 1 ton of coal produces about 1.5 barrels of oil.
So...Montanta's coal supply could provide enough oil for the entire country for 25 YEARS!
Also...the diesel fuel that is produced in this process burns much cleaner than diesel fuel derived from crude oil.
New study: Biodiesel beats ethanol {Autoblog Green}
Jul 20th 2006 3:47PM Yes, biodiesel does have a much higher energy balance. However, it should be noted that corn can produce about ~200 gallons per acre of ethanol and soybeans only produce ~50 gallons per acre of biodiesel. But, biodiesel will give you more miles per gallon than ethanol. And corn is not the best feedstock for ethanol and soybeans are not the best feedstock for biodiesel.
All vehicles in Japan to be E10 compatible by 2030 {Autoblog Green}
Jun 22nd 2006 3:31PM "It will be interesting to see what this means for Japanese automakers."
It probably won't mean a whole lot, considering all cars in the US have been E10 compatible for almost 30 years. Last time I checked, the japs were selling quite a few cars here.
YouTube biodiesel test video from Top Gear on BBC Prime {Autoblog Green}
Jun 20th 2006 3:33PM straight vegetable oil will run in just about any diesel engine. It will, however, usually result in damage over the long-term. WVO is better than new oil, in some ways, because when chicken is cooked in it, some of the fat goes into the oil and increases the energy content. Of course it has to be filtered first, and sometimes the free fatty acid content is too high.
Dubious fuel tip debunked {Autoblog Green}
Jun 16th 2006 3:09PM If this was really true, your gas would expand inside your gas tank as it got up to ambient temperature (assuming you didn't burn it up fast enough) and build up a lot of pressure.
