Aptera may undergo some design changes before December production {Autoblog Green}

Sep 30th 2008 10:31PM The camera in place of a mirror design is called "indirect drive" and it is being developed for armored vehicles, but it is much easier said than done. In the real world is is difficult to get indirect drive good enough to make users happy. The issues are resolution, color, contrast, motion blur, noise, depth, and vibration.

AltCar 2008: Triac in the metal, deliveries to customers start in December {Autoblog Green}

Sep 29th 2008 1:05PM I saw a full prototype at Palo Alto EV Rally and it was nice. I like the the small tadpole configuration and the $20K-somthing MRSP.

I dont see how this is any more practical than a Aptera. And I think in the long run the Aptera will be a better value because of its storage space, style, efficiency, and features.

Rider Magazine tests two-wheeled fuel efficiency {Autoblog Green}

Sep 17th 2008 9:14AM I use to drive my yr 2000 Yamaha R6 on long trips to save gas. It would do ~155 MPG and 55 mpg, but now I take my Honda Insight at 70 MPG. Not as fun, but more comfortable and carrys a lot more.

Sep 5th 2008 12:50AM 25 mpg Diesel is more like 20 mpg gas in terms of energy and C02 emissions. Not so good IMHO.

Will lithium battery costs ever come down? {Autoblog Green}

Aug 26th 2008 11:50PM Blar, every rebuild a electric motor .... .... exactly my point.

the ICE is not simple to rebuild: new gaskets everywere, redundant cylinders multiplying your efforts, pistons, rods, special torque to yeild fasteners, replaced crank bearings that must be ajusted with plasticine gauges, matched weight pistons and connecting rods, new valves, valve shims, valve seals,machining of heads and cycles, complicated timing required....

Ahhh, electric motors move buses and trains.

Will lithium battery costs ever come down? {Autoblog Green}

Aug 25th 2008 11:19PM The ICE car is horribly complicated with system. The only reason that it is manufacture is the fact that they have been building the same old energy waisting thing for so long.

Electric vehicles are so simple that a lot of cost will be lowered once into real production which will offset expensive batteries.

The operating cost will be much lower because of the increased reliability, life and reduced maintenance of the components.

What I did on my summer staycation! {Autoblog Green}

Aug 22nd 2008 8:27AM I'm all for staycations, because there is tons to explore right in your back yard.

I always thought that Segways were neat and fun to try once, but they are really useless. It is gadget engineering. They reinvented the wheel that was already invented. They found a way to automate walking and suck up energy in the process when human power should be doing the work.

The bicycle is far more useful than a segway. You can ride it faster, through more varied terrain, its cheaper and it human powered.
