I just hope VW register a slightly modified 2001 Lupo 3L that was able to do 100MPG out of the dealership doors in 2001. Yup the technology is available but nobody wanted to pay the premium for an aluminium and magnesium Lupo 3L over the regular Lupo.

Mar 23rd 2008 7:58AM I just don't see the point in that engine; any low CC engine in a shell like that will do that kind of mpg; even VW sold a production hatchback car with 2 doors, 4 places and a 3 cyl diesel engine... in 2001.

Mar 17th 2008 12:14PM I have never, NEVER, gotten less than 50 mpg for a tank in over 70,000 miles of driving my Jetta TDI. That includes all day trips down the Highway at 90mph+.
and it's a seriously tweaked out Jetta putting 200hp and 360lb.ft @ 1800 rpm

Funny my low tech 1975 air cooled VW beetle got Bosch electronic fuel injection while my 1984 rabbit GTI (one of the best handling car ever made) got a Bosch CIS mechanical fuel injection (no electronics on this one).
talk about being ahead on technology; now we need the US to understand that turbo-diesel is good, fast and efficient.
