Paris Preview: 2010 MINI Crossover Concept {Autoblog}
Sep 10th 2008 12:10PM I don't mind the sliding door entry on one side. It's little design moves like that that further the uniqueness of the Mini brand. It is similar to the idea of building a "driver's" car and adding additional accoutrement to one-half of the car - like Lambo does with their upholstery.
The center console seems like another distinctive design license. It's too bad none of this will make it to production.
Does anyone remember the BMW Z9 gran turismo concept that had doors that opened gullwing style AND regular style? That was sweet as hell and never made it into a production car. Too bad.

Obama adding Clinton is just good business + HD & LOW {BloggingStocks}
Aug 19th 2008 6:09PM It would be political suicide for them both if Hillary were added to the VP ticket. Although I wouldn't mind seeing combined forces in the White House... many would see the duo as an admission of Obama to his supposed "inexperience" and Hillary to her "second place" finish in the Dem nomination. Hillary has a better chance being appointed to a position within the cabinet, but even that would most likely be turned down. Everyone sees her as a package deal with Bill... and nothing kills voter confidence like apparent power struggles within a party that can't sort out its own members' responsibilities.
There's no way about it. Hillary will never share the office with Obama. What Hillary supporters have to realize is that the only way to keep her close to the White House is to vote Obama. A Republican vote will only serve to keep both Hillary and Bill out of the WH and out of influence. It's no secret that Barack and Hillary talk frequently. And it's no secret that Hillary abhors McCain and his pro-Bush campaign.
In the Autoblog Garage:2009 Nissan GT-R {Autoblog}
Jul 24th 2008 11:47AM @RITmusic2k I realize ulev-2 just means the exhaust is cleaner, but that was my point... if Nissan is able to make an engine with such high volumetric efficiency (or maybe it has super-scrubbing cats) that the car would return better than 11mpg. That's why I asked if the guys were flogging the crap out of it.
I'm not a fan of adding displacement to yield more power... I like the Japanese ideology of over-engineering smaller displacement engines to push your eyeballs backwards. But I'm getting really sick of hearing about the Corvette's long sixth gear giving it 28+ hwy mpg. It almost writes the whole argument in favor of American big displacement.
I strive to be eco-conscious b/c I believe not enough people are... but I guess I can't have my GTR and eat it too.
The changing face of short selling {BloggingStocks}
Jul 20th 2008 2:09PM Benchmark real value? Are you kidding? Short selling, by definition, is a speculative engagement. If we didn't have short selling... I think THEN we would see the real value of common stocks.
Short sales makes the jettisoning of a few shares on the market seem like dumping a few hundred shares - value wise.
Now if you said that short selling makes market play more fun... or that it makes you feel more engaged to complement your long-term portfolio with Vegas-style tactics that (if successful) give you an excuse to were a cape and make people refer to you as "Nostradamus." Then, yes... I agree.
Downer of the Day: Chevy Beat not coming to U.S. {Autoblog Green}
Jul 15th 2008 4:35PM " It seems that fuel's meteoric rise didn't come soon enough for GM to engineer the Beat to meet U.S. safety or crash standards."
But doesn't Europe have more stringent standards for those criteria??? WTF?
First Lotus Eagle pic surfaces, along with details on the 2+2 {Autoblog}
Jul 15th 2008 4:32PM Uhm... that's because the Tesla and Lotus are sisters... off of the same production line and manufacturing mold.
I don't understand why no other reader picked up on this... earlier someone else commented that it looked like a cross between a vette and a GTR. LMAO.
GM shrinks Volt's gas tank, range drops from 600 to 360 miles {Autoblog}
Jul 9th 2008 11:35AM Beyond that... the Volt suffers from analysis paralysis. It seems that too many people have put too many ideas together into what will most likely amount to a ill-conceived assemblage of conflicting encounters. Ex: I think the transparent "window" deconstruction in the door is a nice idea... but executed incredibly poorly.
Although I think the technology and drivetrain ideas are great... that design is most certainly not something I'd plunk down $40k for. It looks like it came from an aborted "Transformers" movie.
Obama opines on Anheuser-Busch sale {BloggingStocks}
Jul 8th 2008 5:59PM Why does a sentiment of thinking (not legislating) that an American company remain an American establishment suddenly mean he is campaigning for the dissolution of capitalism?
Are you suggesting, Zac, that we should sell ourselves out because present economy dictates that is a good decision. Even though, in all probability, it means that we will be in a position to buy ourselves back later at twice the price?
How does that make sense? Maybe you are worried (along with BUD's shareholders) that beer sales will plummet along with sales of the Ford F-150?
Beer happens to be the only domestic product I buy regularly. It feels good to think that I am supporting the domestic economy (even though most of everything else we make is absolute crap). I'm sure Mr. Obama was only remarking on the sad state of America's weak dollar and general "for sale" status and a wish to see an American company do well AND get to stay an American company.
Obama to Detroit: What do you need? Detroit to Obama: Money. {Autoblog Green}
Jun 27th 2008 12:03PM Man, that figures... the Japanese pride themselves on forging new paths in efficiency and innovation. Same with the Germans. American automakers need money because they don't like taking risks and being pioneers.
Do Ford, GM, and Chrysler execs snort mustard on their lunchbreaks?
BTW, Bob and Rick suck balls. Maybe they should've poured research dollars into efficient technologies instead of how to roll more Hummers and Denali's off the line. Obama should stiff the bastards and tell them to figure it out on their own. We have enough economic problems to not have to worry about keeping our domestic automakers bouyant. It's almost the same short-sightedness of the idiots who lent out millions of dollars during the realestate bubble... and people who borrowed thinking they could flip a property in a month for profit.
