At Witz' End: GM EV1 - The Real Story, Part IV {Autoblog Green}

Sep 16th 2008 2:46PM The garage was just an example. My point is it was exceedingly difficult to lease an EV1. The process and delays put many people off. Rules that were applied to an EV1 were NEVER applied to any other GM car. The EV1 was not given a fair and equal chance to succeed. It was stifled from day one.

At Witz' End: GM EV1 - The Real Story, Part IV {Autoblog Green}

Sep 15th 2008 6:15PM "Some technology and business-ignorant cynics even believe that it was intended to fail to demonstrate that it couldn't be done. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the rich body of learning from that effort is paying off big-time today, including in mainstream vehicles."

Yeah, right! GM really wanted the EV1 to be a success :( That's why the leasees had to be able to comply with a long list of conditions BEFORE they could be put on the list to be allowed to lease an EV1. Things like you had to have a garage and you had to park your car in the garage every night. GM never asked someone who was buying a 1999 Corvette to do this.

Miles EVs doing Mile High duty for Dems in Denver {Autoblog Green}

Aug 26th 2008 9:07PM Good!

Maybe we can get through to these idiotic politicians what electric cars can do for this country. Electric cars are the cheapest and fastest way to solve the dual problems of oil dependence and environmental pollution including global warming. We will have to wait to long for hydrogen powered cars to become as convenient and inexpensive as gas cars. Currently bio fuels can't be made in enough quantity to make a difference without affecting food production.

Jul 31st 2008 11:02AM Question is: did he get the shocked from the onboard electrical supply or was it a static build up from the car being in motion? It looked like static build up to me.

Electric MINI will be in US customer hands in summer 2009! {Autoblog Green}

Jul 22nd 2008 10:41AM What makes California so special? We up here in Washington state deserve electric cars just as much as CA. My second question is, What's taking so long?

Wagoner: GM didn't build hybrids because nobody wanted them {Autoblog Green}

Jul 11th 2008 8:57PM Is it 1973? Sounds like 1973 to me. The oil embargo did the same thing caused a big jump in fuel prices causing Americans to shop for the cars that American car makers weren't making. In an attempt to stay in business the auto makers convinced congress to raise tariffs on imports. This made the foreign cars more expensive so that the US car makers could stay competitive.

But guess what really happened. The price of the foreign cars went up and the US car makers discovered they could raise their prices too and make more money for the same product. In the end it cost America in the neighborhood of $200,000 for every auto worker job saved.

Veteran journalist John McElroy calls for EV1 revival; too bad it's not that simple {Autoblog Green}

Jun 29th 2008 11:57AM Don't abandon hope! There are things that can be done to get the EV1 on the road quickly. Airbags, use a system from another car that is being made today like the Cobalt. The only thing to change is a couple of parameters for the new car weight. ABS brakes also use a system from a currently made car etc.

I forgot what this engineering is called but a prime example is the new VW Beetle. Everything on the Beetle that isn't specific to the Beetle design was taken from the Jetta, engine, wheels, suspension, door handles etc. This saved a lot of money and enabled VW to put a unique car on the road much faster.

Obama joins the anti-McCain battery prize league {Autoblog Green}

Jun 25th 2008 1:02PM McCain is beginning to show how desperate his party is for votes. The gas tax holiday is just a gimmick. I would save about $18-20 for the entire summer. A lot of bookkeeping for such a little bit of money.

I'm glad Obama is smart enough to see right trough the McCain clue less hype. Many battery companies have already raised more than $300 million in venture capital. The big question is "Is Obama smart enough to realize that everything this country needs to say good by to foreign oil already exists.

We had electric cars that got over 100 miles per charge. We had batteries that were cheaper to make than an engine and lasted over 10 years. The republicans (McCain's party) let the auto makers destroy them and in fact helped hasten their elimination. Electric cars are the cheapest and fastest way to get control of the energy situation. The bio fuels can't be made in enough quantity and not sacrifice food production. The pie-in-the-sky hydrogen is going to be even more expensive that gas and we are still being asked to wait 10-20 years for development.
