Should we be thinking about standardized everything for plug-in vehicles? {Autoblog Green}
Jun 16th 2008 12:19PM I call Horse Pucky. A call for a standard quick charger is NOT invalid because the author has ignored the fact that our homes support 110 and 220 VAC - any rapids charger will have to deal with some variation of that input, period. Put the specialized electronics and/or transformers in the car, unless they weigh so much they impact the performance or pose a safety problem. I could, of course, be missing something :)
Production Volkswagen up! coming in 2010 {Autoblog Green}
Apr 18th 2008 9:51AM I want one of the Diesel ones. I would pre-order this NOW if the Diesel version is coming to the US. My wife drives 60 to 70 city miles a day, and her Passat gets about 19mpg in the city :( Reports are that the Diesel version of this car could get as much as 94mpg - if it gets even 70% of that, I'd be happy!
VW Golf TDI Hybrid: too expensive for America? {Autoblog Green}
Mar 11th 2008 8:34AM Has anyone looked at the used Diesel car market in the US? People are paying high premiums for used diesel cars, much higher than the premium on a NEW diesel car. Gas here is $3.40 a gallon, Diesel is $3.99. Sell me a diesel hybrid! Please! As long as this car is price competitive with a Prius, I'd rather have the diesel hybrid. Sell to me, VW, sell to me.
The 3,000 mile oil change is a myth {Autoblog Green}
Jan 24th 2008 11:27AM Sigh. Some auto manufacturers bumped up the recommended change interval simply to get better ratings in consumer reports, only to have to revise those estimates back downwards later. My manual says my 1999 Passat 1.8t should have the oil changed every 5000 miles, but the dealer sheet updated in 2002 recommends much less, due to "sludge" issues with this particular engine (updated oil type, too). Simply reading your manual is NOT enough. Check with the dealer for updates on service intervals.
