Friday warning on the dangers of diesel {Autoblog Green}

Jun 6th 2008 1:35PM Did a bit of googling.

European Maid competes in the super-stock class. This class allows 650 cubic inch (10.65 liter) engines with quad turbos. Almost all of them run on methanol. So they are like a top fuel stock car with a tail hook. ;-)

When a 4000 bhp engine fails, it makes a bit of a mess. Methanol burns clean, so the yellow flames are from the lubricant.

Riding the bus {Autoblog Green}

Jun 3rd 2008 2:32AM Public transport takes you in double the travel time, for double the price, to a place where you do not want to go. And if you have dealt with that ... they go on strike.

It barely works for commutes to city centers. Some of us, don't work 9 to 5 office jobs in the city.
For people to accept the shortcomings, fuel prices will have to go up quite a bit more. Or public travel must become fast and cheap.

American Airlines to charge $15 a bag to offset higher fuel costs {Green Daily}

Overcoming the transmission gap {Green Daily}

May 21st 2008 5:12PM "How long before power can be transmitted over something with less loss and less expense than copper?"

Give it a century or so. Super conductivity is nowhere near large scale applications.

So for now, we need high voltage for transmission lines. And it just ain't feasible to use ground cables when air insulation is free.

For those with a death wish: pulse jet powered bicycle {Autoblog Green}

May 16th 2008 2:42AM No way you can use that in urban areas. (Just imagine firing it up in/around London,UK.)
But it looks like great fun to tinker with.

@ Kevin Nugent
That's how it's supposed to sound. It has no spinning compressor blades. But uses the shock wave from ignition for compression.

Satellite-based road tax in the Netherlands in 2011 {Autoblog Green}

May 5th 2008 5:02PM @ Wildgoosechase73
In Germany some truckers tried. The ticket was already in the mail before they made it home. (Pesky things, those traffic cameras all over the place)

Satellite-based road tax in the Netherlands in 2011 {Autoblog Green}

May 5th 2008 4:43PM This is NOT a green measure. It's just another tax.

At the moment about 60% of fuel prices in the Netherlands is tax. So when the Th!nks and Tesla's arrive, the government will loose out on all that money. To prevent that, they envisioned a toll road system all over the country, with the help of GPS trackers. The Germans have prooven this tech. works, with their "autobahn maut" (highway toll for trucks). The system will (of course) also be great for writing out speeding tickets.

In return road tax and the 25% registration fee, will be abolished. Which creates a new problem. Without road tax, the road maintenance fund will suffer. So in the near future, a new tax will have be invented to fill the gap.

Oil getting close to $120, gas prices following upward trend {Autoblog Green}

Apr 28th 2008 10:41AM $3.51? Wow, that's cheap.

Over here it's 1.589 Euro/liter or 9.40 $/gallon, thanks to a refinery strike 750 miles away.

Intelligent Energy and PSA Peugeot Citroën unveil H2Origin {Autoblog Green}

Apr 23rd 2008 3:39PM Seems to be a nice demonstrator. A fuel cell vehicle with a light stack, and batteries for extra power when needed. A possible solution for people who need the (very) long range EV's can't provide. (200-1500 km a day)

But why the bother with exchanging gas cylinders? It can't be that hard to fill them up in a short time. LPG users around the globe have been doing it for decades. And the gas station in the middle of nowhere never has your size bottles. But in a few years, it will have a solar/wind powered electrolyzer.

Honda FCX Clarity to be pace car for Japanese IndyCar race {Autoblog Green}

Apr 18th 2008 12:18PM Up to 270 miles on a 4kg tank. But how far will it go at 100 mph?
Its mighty emberassing if the pace car needs to go in for a pitstop.
