Next-gen Prius coming in January with more power, efficiency {Autoblog}

May 1st 2008 12:22PM As long as fuel economy meaningfully improves with every re-design, it's fine if Toyota increases the size/weight of the vehicle a bit.

Besides, once we switch to lithium-ion batteries (per the Chevy Volt), we'll be able to achieve fuel economy FAR better than the 3G Prius, even with vehicles a bit roomier than the Prius.

Tom Friedman takes on the idiocy of a gas tax holiday {Autoblog Green}

May 1st 2008 12:17PM We definitely need to raise the gas tax, both to discourage gas consumption and to repair our dangerously aging roads & bridges.

But don't use it as an excuse to raise our overall tax burden.

Shortly before the gas tax is raised, CUT THE INCOME TAX FOR ALL AMERICANS to make up for it. Not just "for lower to middle income" people. You don't lose the right to keep the fruits of your work when you start earning a certain amount.

We're trying to discourage gas consumption, not penalize hard work & success. Much higher gas tax and much lower income tax is the right combination.

C-NET tries to count all the electric car start-ups {Autoblog Green}

Dec 14th 2007 10:03AM Here's another manufacturer of NEVs: E-Ride, founded in 2004. Their website is www.e-ride.com. Both their office and their assembly facility are in Minnesota. They make only an NEV, not a "real" car that can drive on high-speed-limit roads, but that may suit some people's purposes.
