There is no such thing as "clean coal". Might as well depend on the tooth fairy to power electric cars.

Feb 26th 2008 11:46AM Hi,
Misses the point which is we should stop using Coal (a filthy source of energy. We should also forget about "Clean Coal" (a filthy source of energy with Carbon Sequestration).
DOE scraps advanced coal fired power plant in Illinois {Autoblog Green}
Feb 2nd 2008 4:35AM Hi,
"Plans to build a nearly emissions-free coal fired power plant in Illinois have been thrown into chaos now that the Department of Energy has pulled out of the project."
A Coal fired power plant with most or all of the Carbon Sequestered is NOT "nearly emissions-free".

Firefly's Oasis Group 31 batteries getting some EV fans excited {Autoblog Green}
Jan 25th 2008 4:01PM Hi Dave,
The FAQ appears to be out of date. It does not mention the Oasis.
Do you think that they are going to produce a battery targeted at long haul truckers and not allow individual truckers to purchase those batteries?
Do you think if someone tries to purchase their batteries for a conversion they are going to require a copy of a pink slip to prove you are a long haul trucker?

Editorial: Is Malcolm Bricklin's vision clear? {Autoblog Green}
Jan 24th 2008 4:33PM Hi,
The most ecological way (much less energy and materials as compared to building a car from scratch) to electrify our transportation is to convert existing cars to electric (PHEV's and BEV's). One of the big obstacles is the price of parts. Having high quality parts available at costs comparable to what big companies pay could really help this gain momentum. If only 5% or 10% of our drivers started driving vehicles converted to EV's it would make a substantial impact. This would could make the technology available for people who can't afford a new car.

Who's behind a better lithium-ion hybrid/EV battery? Why, it's Exxon Mobil {Autoblog Green}
Nov 29th 2007 7:17PM Hi,
From another article on the Web:
"This weekend, at the 23rd Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition (EVS-23) in Anaheim, Calif., Exxon Mobil will unveil a super-thin plastic sheeting the company says can improve the power, safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries for use in automobiles...
Exxon Mobil considers the film a breakthrough because it allows battery makers to build smaller and cheaper battery systems — removing key obstacles that have kept automakers from building hybrid and electric vehicles on a wide scale. Porosity is one of the key parameters in building higher performance separators and Tonen has developed a prototype film with a 51% porosity compared to 37% in current production batteries while maintaining the same strength and thermal integrity."
"I'll be attending that conference, and will make sure to bring you more details from Exxon."
I'd like to you to get some idea of how much difference in size, power and cost this 14% improvement might make.
Thanks,
Mitch
