Chrysler working "intensely" on Hornet-like small car {Autoblog Green}
Jun 12th 2008 8:27PM GM seems to get it, they have to build Volts and sell them at a loss to get the thing rolling. Ford at least has the Escape and next year Fusion hybrids. Chrysler has nothing, and no money to develop anything. I think they're dead.
Volt mules are meeting EV-only target range {Autoblog Green}
May 14th 2008 8:59PM Take it from an old EVer, range is more dependant on speed than anything else. If you drive your Volt 85mph I bet you don't make even 32mi.
On the other hand, if you keep it down to 40-50 I bet you can go 50mi. Your Mileage May Vary.
World Wildlife Fund comes out in support of electric drive {Autoblog Green}
Apr 20th 2008 6:06PM It's pretty simple really, electric drive is 4-5 times as efficient(than ICE in a car), even if the electricity is generated with fossil fuels it would make more sense to burn it in the power plants than in the cars, at least then you can burn it efficiently and you have a few hundred power plants to clean up instead of 100s of millions of cars.
Videos: NY Mayor Bloomberg test drives Javlon, Popular Mechanic test drives Aptera {Autoblog Green}
Dec 27th 2007 11:23AM The Aptera is definitely the best car, addresses all the problems of conventional vehicles (weight, drag, drive efficency) and maintains safety.
That said I think the Javlon will sell better, the Aptera is just too radical for most people.
Oh, Thank You, Thank You ExxonMobil!! {Autoblog Green}
Nov 30th 2007 11:40AM Exxon-Mobil has been dieing to get at the last scraps of oil in the US for decades (ANWR, ect), to be sure they will probably be developed some day but it's in our intrest to delay them as long as possible, then maybe oil will be so expensive it will be worth taking extensive precautions exploiting these last little bits in sensitive locations.
Remember oil is also plastics, pesticides, industrial chemicals, and many more irreplacable things essential to our civilization, it's really too valuable to burn!
Crossovers not providing the MPGs people want, so they're going back to SUVs {Autoblog Green}
Nov 29th 2007 10:29AM I figured out the trailer thing about 12 years ago, now, 5 cars later, I'm towing my same light weight 4X8 trailer behind a Prius, I get 50+ mpg most of the time and still have the ability to haul stuff when I need to, the trailer is acually easier to load than a PU because it's lower.
The truck/SUV guys are emotionally attached, it's not really necessary in most cases.
