NASCAR sued for being racist, sexist of all things {Autoblog}

Jun 15th 2008 7:20PM I've been reading all of these comments to see what i feared the most: everyone continues to assume the NASCAR anti-minority, or in this case, anti-black persona. You know, a couple of years ago, NBC tried to on Dateline, highlight racism in America about people of Middle Eastern descent (u know ever since 9/11 happened), and they took a couple of people to a NASCAR race, thinking that someone would treat them, say something, do something negatively. Guess what. No one did, not a single person at that track. Below is the blurb. Anyways, my point is as said by only a few people, yes, alot of NASCAR fans are self-described rednecks, what are you gonna do, they doesnt make them any less of person, unless you are totally against Southern attitude, in which case, you need to suck it up. However, redneck they may be, if you have actually tailgated at a race, you will fine throughout, some of the nicest and down to earth people, people that are not the racist _____ (whatevers) most of you seem to think. Just like in America and in the world, there are some people that have their own ideas, and im not saying that this event could not have happened, (you never know about some people, especially most idiots on the road) I am saying though, that NASCAR is not a breeding ground for racism, and while it had a history of racism, just like all sports, ahem..., most of you haters out there will be amazed by the level of diversity NASCAR has strived to do while not eliminating an equal opportunity for all (unlike most companies or schools now a days who say u must be a certain color to get a scholarship or work there, especially public schools and colleges). I applaud the sport on coming to action, but i am still quizzed that something of the like was not brought to their attention, Brian France and all of those guys are certaintly not of the racist kind. However, we dont know all the details yet, and the plaintiffs case is starting to look a little fishy with some of her incorrect details.hmmm

As I listened to Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne express dismay when they were told Friday about Dateline NBC's attempt to generate conflict between Muslim and Arab "spectators" and NASCAR fans at Martinsville, a strange thought came across my admittedly often-misguided brain.
Let's face it: Dateline NBC and shows like it are facing an uphill battle. Namely, increasing apathy among Americans across the board. Need proof? Dateline's Friday edition was bumped from NBC's schedule back in March after producing less-than-robust ratings and its current Sunday edition is noticeably floundering.
Dateline received a bit of publicity earlier this year when it aired a series of shows that nabbed pedophiles in the act. While exposing prejudice against Muslims and Arabs is hardly the same thing, the NASCAR community is already talking about the segment -- and it hasn't even been fully produced yet.

Some have said that Dateline's methods were born of ignorance. Maybe. But maybe the show's producers knew how fiercely loyal NASCAR's fan base is and also knew that calling it into question would get folks talking about -- and watching -- the show even before the piece aired.
Bruton Smith will be. He told us so Friday.
"We're going to be very watchful to see that things are done properly," he said. [end the quote]

Will Subaru add a diesel to the Impreza STi? {Autoblog Green}

Mar 3rd 2008 5:38PM I don't believe the diesel really needs extra horsepower if torque numbers are approaching 300 (which is as good as the current gas STi), but I'm sure a little massaging of the engine will shoot up about 10-15 more hp, but more importantly 13-18 lb-ft torque. But even if less than 10 for each, although I think they will, this will still be one awesome car! Definite keepsake in my future garageplex

Feb 17th 2008 10:17PM Even though, the Detroit Grand Prix would be nice for them to come, why would Peugeot participate near Detroit? They haven't sold a car here for years, unfortunately...:[
