Toronto considering banning coffee cups {Green Daily}
Sep 18th 2008 11:48AM I think that a better way to go about it would be to give a greater discount for bringing your own mug. Starbucks gives $0.10. I believe that some places fear health hazards by ppl bringing their own containers.
There are a few places around here that have $1 refills - I like that route - even give $0.25 or $0.50 on coffee - it costs them nothing - the disposable cup probably costs more than that.
Economists say nutrition should take priority over climate change {Green Daily}
Jun 3rd 2008 6:55PM How about the nutritionist focus on something other than modifying the western diet and look deeper into the issue. Maybe if every food option on our shelves wasn't fake or just all corn byproducts we wouldn't have as many health issues. There was a time when there wasn't any other choice than organic and we need to get back to that and realize the true cost of food. Like cheap Chinese plastic products, food shouldn't cost as little as it does. The mass production to reduce cost has really hurt us here in the States - bigger, faster, cheaper isn't always the best model (especially with hookers :-) ).
Anyway - I think that they are both significant issues that need addressed. If you improve some of the farming issues, it can help the climate at the same time.

May's Green Challenge: That's a wrap! {Green Daily}
Jun 1st 2008 5:59PM I have one of the ACME bags from Reusablebags.com - they rock - so small and compact. My wife carries Chico bags in her purse.
Just a thought - great for having with you all the time.

May's Green Challenge: That's a wrap! {Green Daily}
May 31st 2008 11:17PM I'm up to receiving a grand total of 6 plastic bags this year so far. Two of them are from our "egg guy." I'll excuse it. They were reusing them, at least.

Which electric mower is the greenest? {Green Daily}
May 31st 2008 11:14PM I have the Remington Cordless Mower and it rocks. I have over 1/3 acre to mow and the battery never dies. It's a nice 60v battery. The other plus is that this mower can be corded or cordless. So if your battery does die, you're not S.O.L.

Minnesota boy rides bike into Prius he didn't hear {Autoblog Green}
May 8th 2008 10:54AM My favorite was the episode of "Weeds" last season. A gangbanger was riding with the main character - a suburban mother who deals weed to suburbanites. This gangbanger loved her Prius because it was great for "drive-by's" because it was so quiet.

The Suburban Farmer: Raising Chickens 101 {Green Daily}
Apr 29th 2008 9:38AM great intro to raising suburban chickens. I've been debating it for a while with my wife, too. There are some folks about 2mi from our house that has a ton of chickens and we get our eggs from them now.
Someone else I talk to a lot went with raising ducks instead of chickens - friendlier with kids, etc.

tampon post {Green Daily}
Apr 17th 2008 4:19PM Ironically - or really not - this page had a banner ad for the OB tampons on it when I came to it.
So an article about possible greenwashing of a brand is being sponsored by that same brand. Brilliant!

Apr 17th 2008 4:16PM Whether or not you want to use a reusable pad, I'd really recommend a great charity. It's called Goods4Girls.
You go to their site and buy a reusable pad which is put in kits that are sent to a group in Africa. Many girls drop out of school whenever they start menstrating due to not having any supplies to take care of themselves. This group provides that and helps the girls stay in school continuing their education. It's a great way to give back to the world.
