Tata Nano production to start this fall, greener variants coming {Autoblog Green}
Jul 4th 2008 7:57AM MDI's compressor is a proprietary design that works at much higher efficiency. Tata's press release called it an efficient drivetrain and they tested it for two years before saying licensing the technology.

The Indian-made REVAi now available in India {Autoblog Green}
Jun 27th 2008 1:59AM Still too expensive. Although running costs are dramatically lower,* it's worth pointing out that it's essentially a 2-seater. Their claim of a 4 persons payload doesn't really hold as the rear seats are only comfortable for kids.
* According to their ad, a person travelling 40km [25 mi] every day in a regular car would save Rs.4500 [$105] every month by switching to Reva. However, this does not take the cost of changing the lead-acid batteries every few years.

Jun 25th 2008 3:48AM My word of advice to electric car industry:
Just give us that damn electric car we should have had 100 years ago. One that most Americans can afford, that can carry 4 people comfortably, has a sufficient range and a good enough top speed. Who cares about who did what inside a particular electric sports car company making cars for celebrities.
My word of advice to ABG:
Get over your Tesla obsession for God's sake and end this Telsa Soap Opera. I'm sick and tired of it. I stopped reading these posts long ago but just seeing the headlines makes me mad. There are plenty of other new companies to cover doing more exciting things. If you want to continue coverage, give us an opt-out option, the way your sister site Engadget did for Apple news...

My word of advice to Tesla's past and current executives:
You need to get over the illusion of your self-importance. You aren't pioneers and you aren't answering the market need. You're after the 0.01% of the market and your solution for the other 99.99% isn't even on the drawing board yet. The only thing you've done is to get people excited about electric cars. You aren't leading the industry, the developments we see now would have happened anyway thanks to market forces. So get over yourself!

Chris, believe me, I stopped reading these articles long ago. Just seeing the headlines makes me mad. Wish there was a way to browse ABG minus all the Tesla crap. I'm sick of it.

Honda launches Civic hybrid in India {Autoblog Green}
Jun 20th 2008 5:34PM It isn't going to sell in any significant numbers since it's being imported and there's a hefty 124% duty on new imported cars in India. It's expected to cost around Rs.21 Lakh which is close to $49,000.

Jun 20th 2008 5:17PM This sounds like a scene straight out from a 2006 BBC documentary: "IF...the Oil Runs Out". Set in 2016, it shows what kind of things to expect if oil prices reach $4/gallon.
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D8C2EA2D80A326F7
The funny thing is, it's only 2008 and we've already reached the $4/gallon and $100 / barrel oil prices shown in the documentary. Other predictions: more widespread oil thefts, long queues at petrol pumps, skyrocketing food and grocery prices, unemployment, people getting angry and general fist fights breaking out at the slightest provocation.
Oh, and it shows the US government permitting oil drilling in Alaska. But not finding any.
