Buy Toyota badges... from GM {Autoblog}

Jul 9th 2008 3:04PM Now now, we have to play by the "free trade" rules! Export all of our jobs and import all of the stuff we used to make here! All the while claiming we created millions of new jobs because each person that lost a high paying job went out and got 2 part time, low wage jobs to try to make ends meet while the CEO's get richer. Gotta love Reaganomics!

Chevy Cruze to be built in Lordstown {Autoblog}

Jul 9th 2008 2:47PM Paul -
The cobalt has very little in common with the cavalier. The "cruze" (if they call it that) also has little in common with the cobalt, however it is MUCH more similar to cobalt than cavalier is to cobalt.

Spy Shots: 2010 Buick LaCrosse spotted in the wild {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 10:25AM "sooo...did daddy let his son and a friend take the company car out for ice cream"

Get out much? How old and grey are you to make a comment like that? Go back to your rocking chair.

"Looks like an obese prius to me"

Makes as much sense as saying a Prius looks like an obese chipmunk.

"Undoutedly an Impala cousin"

This car shares nothing with Impala. Zero. The W-cars are dinosaurs that will be put to pasture soon, along with G-cars.

"I wouldn't have guessed it's a Buick until I noticed that the gentelmen inside the vehicle appear to be Asian"

Seriously? You think that every engineer at GM in NA is white? Maybe you think they are all old and grey too. While there is some amount of design-level sharing between GM China and NA, this vehicle is mainly engineered in Europe and NA.

This car will knock your socks off once it is unveiled. Even in pre-production trim without camo it is absolutely beautiful.

Solar panels to power accessories on next Toyota Prius {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 10:09AM "would be a first on a production vehicle offered by a major automaker"

So, you consider Mazda, in 1992, a "major" automaker??? They are not even in the top 5 today.

Job and brand cuts from GM on the horizon {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 9:53AM You must not realize that in order to "Americanize" an Opel or other European vehicle requires alot of re-engineering to meet US safety specs. That is why they get heavier.

Certain aspects of fuel system integrity and occupant safety are more challenging here and to fix this on an already-developed vehicle means adding mass.

Of course GM is now making any new architecture meet all global requirements so every new vehicle will already contain the extra mass to do this, even in markets where it doesn't need to. Sort of a double edged sword.

British Motor Show Preview: Opel Insignia to debut in hatch and sedan forms {Autoblog}

Jul 4th 2008 7:49AM In fact all new Saturn programs appear to be "on hold" or even cancelled. I smell a reduction in brands coming from GM. Hopefully with government help so that GM is not required to buy out every single dealership.

Sen. McCain proposes $300m prize for a better battery {Autoblog}

Jun 23rd 2008 4:00PM Bi-partisan voting record? Are you for real? We are talking about Mr "agree with Bush 95% of the time" here. Try doing some research.

Australian gov't to help GM, Ford fix fuel economy of large cars {Autoblog Green}

Jun 18th 2008 6:28AM Even the AU gov't is more concerned with USDM survival than our own gov't. At least AU gets it. When will our politicians wake up and realize that protecting our manufacturing industry is good for the country? Every other rational country does this. Oh, because we are run by lobbyists from global corporations. Hello fascism!

Mitsubishi's electric car plans revealed {Autoblog Green}

Jun 18th 2008 6:19AM The reason OEM's lease vehicles like this: cost. In case you haven't heard, properly engineering BEV's are VERY expensive. So until batteries become cheap, expect to have a leased vehicle.

And wheel hub motors? Makes sense in a controlled driving environment but not in the real world. Warranty/repair costs would be very high when a very expensive component is in an area that gets frequently damaged and is exposed to the elements in everyday usage. Not to mention the high unsprung mass on each corner is very bad for ride quality. Keeping 1 motor enclosed under the hood makes more sense. It might be less efficient, but it is the more sensible design.

The secret life of the Chevy Volt {Autoblog}

Jun 16th 2008 11:05PM BTW, GM has been researching fuel cells for over 40 years, and delivered 100 hydrogen fuel cell Equinox vehicles around 8 months ago to customers in California, New York, and DC.

Hopefully GM can stop wasting money on a dead-end techonology already and in the long term have all BEVs.
