Ferrari + Corvette = Fervette (and dry heaves) {Autoblog}

Nov 13th 2006 9:16PM got cut off by this guy (or girl) a few weeks back. had to do a double take! a friend of mine spotted it at a gas station, his girlfriend asked "is that a ferrari?" but alas, a sheep in wolf's clothing. granted, its not ferrari, but the C6 is not a car to be ashamed of.

2007 Mazdaspeed3: C-segment zoom-zoom is here {Autoblog}

Sep 5th 2006 4:43PM since the mazdaspeed6 isnt selling too well, im hoping in a few years to pick up a used one for way less than a mazdaspeed3. though, i havent driven the speed3 so it could be a tossup. btw, reducing torque in the first few gears is NOT the end of performance. you do realize they still want these cars to be streetable to the average driver. obviously if its gearing and lack of AWD is that much of a concern to you, you are shopping for the wrong car. a "chipped GTI" may have its advantages but mazdas in general are quick & nimble out of the box. i think the next R32 will be the speed3 killer, but for that price to performance ratio, there are so many other choices out there.

ABS-equipped vehicles: Deadly quiet {Autoblog}

Aug 21st 2006 6:09PM My ABS doesnt kick in until a panic stop or some other forced braking under unusual circumstances. That said, most complaints of ABS generally come from track/rally style driving (or at least should). I see ABS as designed for safety 1st, performance braking last, and normal day-to-day street driving should be where ABS can save a life or 2. Not that I would wish this on anyone, but when your wheels lock and you cant control the skid of your car, do you want to be on the pro-ABS or non-ABS side of this discussion?

Click and Clack tackle cost effectiveness of ethanol {Autoblog Green}

Jul 18th 2006 3:19PM i remember when research was released debating the efficiency of building hybrid vehicles. over the life of the vehicle, a hybrid may actually incur more energy usage for manufacturing, cost-to-own, and dismantling vs their non-hybrid counterparts. they had to take in hundreds of variables on different operating costs and energy consumption, that churning out a definite answer may be the holy grail of their research. i think its the same with ethanol number crunching too, its a whole lot of factors, and not a lot of definite answers.

e85 is more seen (i think) as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels, not so much a clean-burning or energy-efficient alternative. and the gov't is paying the farmers to not grow corn (why do that if they were concerned about world hunger in the beginning), might as well let them farm it and put it to some use.

Mazda to sell race-ready NR-A in Japan {Autoblog}

Apr 27th 2006 6:14PM pretty harsh comments from people who possibly have never been in the seat of an mx-5. i agree it has a girly reputation, and mazda is notorious for making awesome "special edition" trims that are not available in the US. but with the NR-A the fun-to-dollar ratio can't be beat by an s2000. go higher-end and even the z4 starts to look excessive. and lets not forget the success of these roadsters can be partly attributed to the success of the mx-5.
