Gingrich presents three ways to lower gas prices {Autoblog Green}
Jun 25th 2008 4:12PM Also, there's a reason Newt doesn't have the clout with the green crowd that Al Gore does. I think its because he fails to espouse the "let's all just stop using electricity" policy that Al so desperately wants to implement.
Gingrich presents three ways to lower gas prices {Autoblog Green}
Jun 25th 2008 4:07PM I'm sure Democrats everywhere are blasting this plan because its "too rational" and "in no way punishes oil companies".
Is John McCain's $300m battery prize a good idea? Pelosi chimes in {Autoblog Green}
Jun 25th 2008 3:22PM Let me see if I can sum up Pelosi's position. Blah blah blah, Big Oil, blah blah blah. I'm sure she's content to blame Republicans, speculators, and anyone else she perceives as guilty of our current situation. The fact is that she has done nothing at all to help our situation. I believe that the Democrats feel that an alternative to oil is far closer than it actually is. Obama's refusal to allow any kind of oil and gas development simply reaffirms this argument
The fact is that no single solution will make energy more affordable but it will take many different sources. I'm sorry, but America can't wait for CAFE to be raised to 50 mpg by 2027; that is an absolutely preposterous piecemeal solution. America can not wait for oil prices to get any higher before we do something drastic. I feel that, while not perfect, a large cash prize is the kind of Hail Mary engineering solution we need.
Of course if that doesn't work we could always fuel our vehicles with change and hope.
The secret life of the Chevy Volt {Autoblog}
Jun 17th 2008 11:55AM Wow! What a great idea! A car that no one can afford powered by a fuel that no one can get. The Clarity really is going to change the automobile business as we know it!
NASCAR sued for being racist, sexist of all things {Autoblog}
Jun 11th 2008 6:24PM I think $250 million is a bit much for anyone's pain and suffering. I believe people were on these boards earlier today railing against how much money oil companies make, at least they actually contribute something. It sounds like someone is just shooting for early retirement to me.
What a joke.
GM breaking up with Big Oil in new commercial {Autoblog}
Jun 10th 2008 8:04PM It isn't for lack of tax breaks and subsidies that the Big 3 is in trouble, they are in trouble because they have a bad business model and were just plain beaten by the Japanese in terms of quality and desirability of their cars. It doesn't help that the UAW continues to bleed them dry. They could take a lesson from foreign car manufacturers and build cars in the South to try to avoid the unions.
I own a Tahoe and I want the domestic manufacturers to do well but they have to make cars that I want to buy. I feel that they are doing much better.
I also work in the oil industry and feel that people simply don't understand the economies of scale involved in the oil industry. Yes, $40 billion seems like a huge profit and it is but you have to consider that they spent around $440 billion last year to make that money. Those profit margins are certainly not unreasonable, especially when you consider that the profit margin on Apple products is around 50%. Democrats know (or should know) that taxing oil companies into the ground will discourage domestic oil production and have no impact on gas prices but they are simply grandstanding to a constituency that doesn't understand the complexities of the oil industry.
CAW form blockade in front of GM Canada to protest plant closings {Autoblog}
Jun 5th 2008 3:22AM They don't care what they're building as long as they have a job. I guess unions have never heard of things like market trends because I can't think of any reason they would demand that GM keep building cars that no one wants to buy so they can have a job. This proves my theory that as long as GM has two nickels to rub together the unions will continue to make more demands.
9ff proves the GT9 is stupid fast, tops 253 mph {Autoblog}

I seriously doubt anyone who buys a $1 million Bugatti Veyron or any of these cars for that matter really cares about what the price of gas is. Not only could they afford all the gas they want but they probably won't even drive these cars that much.
Greenpeace: Carbon capture is not going to save our climate {Autoblog Green}
May 8th 2008 2:11PM Once again Greenpeace presents arguments that don't have the slightest base in reality. Of course we could all switch to wind and solar tomorrow if there were that much capacity and if our energy budget was unlimited. I love how they're so concerned about "passing the costs onto consumers" and want everyone to switch over to energy that costs double the price of coal.
Audi seriously considering U.S. plant {Autoblog}
May 7th 2008 6:20PM Hmm. That's funny, I don't remember German-made Audis setting the world on fire with their reliability. That leads me to believe its either poor build quality or just a whole lot of engineering flaws. Either way, bringing a plant to the U.S. couldn't hurt.
By the way, as of the last reliability ranking, Audi barely edged out Dodge. Ouch
